I think it boils down to this. Backing Tebow basically is admitting that you suck, and your team couldn't win without him. That team has no character in their locker room, so rather than look to blame themselves, they are going to point fingers, and Tebow is the easy target.

Sanchez has played horribly, and Tebow would not be a worse option.
