Whats worse?
I'm gonna play devils advocate. Mainly cuz I've kept my mouth relatively shut about the Saints scandal.
IMO, bounty-gate will not be a big deal in 3 years. It will be forgotten and everyone will move on. The Saints will still have a trophy and nobody will remember why it may be tainted. I think Falcons fans are looking with their heads held high because its not our problem this time. We had one really bad year and everyone remembers it. Winning covers up the past. The Saints and Patriots both did wrong and their winning percentage covered it up. So, what's worse, us with Vick or Saints with bounties? Who will be affected longer? What will be remembered longer? I don't condone what happened with either event, but I guarantee our situation is and will be the worse of the two in the end.

RE: Whats worse?
Vick was an individual. People remember it that way, and that we were caught in the storm.
The Bounties were an organizational thing, and it will always be a topic of discussion for the Aints. I think people underestimate how much the NFL Office will use this as a deterrent for future problems (from fear of law suits). People 20 years from now will still speak of this event, even if they forget the details. All it needs is a nifty media moniker (like "spy-gate"), which I think will come with the penalties. RE: Whats worse?
As drathdon said, most people clown Vick more than Atlanta...the only link the media makes nowadays is the prelude to commenting on Matt Ryan usually talking about the shit storm him and Smith turned around here, or the redemption story they want Vick to have against Atlanta so bad.

RE: Whats worse?
The Saints didn't drown, electrocute, or beat living things to death.

RE: Whats worse?
If Gregg Williams gets a lifetime ban, which he deserves, then I thinks the Saints will be remembered because of that interesting fact. You never hear of people getting banned from sports, and Gregg probably become the first in a long time.

Yes, Vick was an individual thing, but it was an individual thing that split the locker room, split the city and split the nation. The Saints deal is a tawdry bit of the NFL that has been hidden from public view for decades. Twenty years from now it will be small footnote with little meaning. The worst of the press hit the fan in the first week of the release of the story. The speculation on the details and punishment expected covered the full gambit and whatever did happen and what penalties will be handed down will surely be lighter than the worst of the speculation implied. The worst of the storm surrounding the pay for performance deal of the Saints has passed ... much to the chagrin of some of the Saints' most committed rivals. Saints Fan Since 1967

RE: Whats worse?
Vick may have been an individual, but it affected the entire organization, fans, and nfl. Vick was the center of the Falcons organization. When Vick was here, fans were here. When he left, we became the official laughingstock of the NFL that year. Luckily we've dug ourselves out of that hole and into another hole of not being able to win a playoff game. That's not a terrible hole since we are winning. If we kept struggling, Vick would still be the center of discussion for the organization.
I don't believe the worst has come for the Saints yet, but whatever happens to Williams means squat. It doesn't hurt the Saints in any way, it only hurts the Rams.

RE: Whats worse?
Vick is an Eagle now. He's their problem. The dogfighting thing aside he is just as lousy a QB now as he was back then. It's safe to say that the franchise and everyone else has moved on from that.
The Bounty issue is new and still hasn't been resolved yet. It will have a lasting impact because the NFL will now be looking deeper into the locker room than ever before. I got a feeling that Goodell is going to make an example of the Saints which he didn't do with the Pats. |
