I'm hoping it's the BVG mustache

[Image: 2menybt.jpg] Invest in the trenches with high draft picks and we will see both sides of the ball vastly improve.

Over the last 4 years cornerbacks have been the top position drafted among NFL teams. In 2012, 34 cornerbacks were chosen; in 2011, 39 corners were picked; in 2010, 33 cornerbacks; in 2009, 36 corners came off the board. Corners are great for covering spread wide out systems but lousy at stopping bruising running backs. Certain teams will start to expose this and you will see more 1500-1800 yard rushers and less 4500+ passers.

Of course this is all dependent on the college game. the NFL is only as good as the players feeding into it. As recruiters look for talent they look for guys who fit their offenses. For long time the spread was popular in college so little wide receivers and spread QB's were the flavor. But pro set teams are starting to get control of the top college teams and talent. Big backs will make a comeback and CBs wont be able to stop them. Of course this is all cyclical. Once the league stocks up on LBs and DTs to stop the run the spread will come back and dominate until CBs take over again and so on.

Very interesting post, I haven't thought of that. Since the Packers and Saints have been throwing it all over the place, tons of teams have been going CB early. None of them have really panned out that I've seen though.

That is very interesting. I honestly see the FB position going away. Seems a good, big, RB can do the same thing now a days.

I think there will be more receivers who run the ball around the league like Percy Harvin, Aaron Hernandez, Dexter McCluster, etc.

The thing is though, by the time you have the mismatch of bruiser vs CB you have already lost the first battle. I would think defenses would try to stop things at the point of attack, similar to how teams have loaded the box against us when they knew Turner was coming.

I'm just going to piggy back off this post. Remember how the Rams used Marshall Faulk back in the day? As a running back who was very dangerous in the passing game.

I think the days of the Michael Turner, Adrian Peterson type running backs are over. At least for the time being.

I think more and more teams will go in the way of guys like Percy Harvin, Dexter McCluster, Jamaal Charles, Darren Sproles, ect. Multipurpose backs. Guys who can make plays running the ball but are more dangerous in the passing game. Mostly in the screen game like the Eagles and Saints have done the past few years.

With the league going more towards passing we'll continue to see QBs throw up more insane passing numbers. I've seen people say that having 3 QBs with over 5,000 yards and 10 QBs with over 4,000 yards was a fluke last year because of the lockout. I totally disagree. I'll be very surprised if we don't have 3-5 QBs with over 5,000 yards passing this year.

Running the ball is becoming obsolete and along with it guys like Michael Turner and Adrian Peterson who's primary asset is running the ball and who aren't get assets in the passing game.

Personally, I think we'll see a continuing shift to 3-4 defenses throughout the league to the point that the 4-3 will be a rarity. I believe 9 of the top 11 defenses in terms of YPG were 3-4/multiple alignments with only the Bengals and Seahawks being exceptions.
