Yeah, I read that when it first came out. I have never been much of a fan of John DeShazier's work. The two regular beat writers are Duncan and Triplett and both are very good. DeShazier seldom lets logic stand in the way of a column. He gave the example of Cedric Benson as why the August 8, 2011 deadline won't work for the player. The difference is that the PA didn't fight Benson's battle with as much ammo as they are bringing to the table this time.

DeShazier has an agenda, of course, with this opinion piece and that is that he believes the NFLPA sold out to the owners in the CBA dispute by allowing Goodell to remain with all of the control on off field issues. But, most importantly, it is opinion only and he far from being any type of legal expert.

Sorry, but I completely believe what I am saying. I have a very real feeling that Goodell took the knowledge that the Saints had your run of the mill pay for performance program going on and his investigators managed to find a disgruntled ex-defensive coach that fed them a story or two that were somewhat embellished.

So by this do you mean the NFLPA? Or what's your reaction if the grievance that is filed goes nowhere? Or better yet how would you feel if the grievance that is filed goes nowhere and the NFLPA still doesn't believe there was enough evidence? At that point does the judge now have a reason to lie? Do you have that much faith in NFLPA over everybody else? Is this solely because they are on the side that you want to be right?

Guido you said that you can't imagine any of these players agreeing to a bounty for injury scheme. However when Vilma was asked on the record about accepting bounties at Miami he would not deny it. Instead he gave a classic non-denial denial that strongly suggests to many that he accepted bounty payments at Miami.

Couple that with the audio of Gregg "The first ones on me" Williams, you can see why anyone saying that they "can't imagine" any of these players participating in a pay to injure scheme cannot be taken seriously. Go ahead and change that to "I fervently hope" and/or "I choose to believe that no pay-for-injury scheme was in place", then I will accept that position. But "I can't imagine" is way too much of a head in the sand attitude to be taken seriously.

I don't think anyone is going to give up until real evidence is shown. I think it is going to end ugly for the NFL. The lead investigator, Hummel, already resigned. Yes, supposedly to go to a better job. Right. Could it maybe be that he didn't feel there was enough to go on? Goodell can do what he wishes with coaches and others not protected by a union, but I think he underestimated the player's union.

I honestly believe he "convicted" the players with no more evidence than we have already seen. And what about the other 23 players that he said so willingly took part in the bounty program? Why didn't they get ANY penalty. Possibly because it didn't happen?
