In this respect. What we have been ahead of the curve the last 2 to 3 years. Expect Matt to really be able to boss things from no huddle this season.

With mike smith being once a part of the coughlin coaching tree and td being in the bellichick tree. Both men of course having their own style and ideas certainly they're not puppets to the scheme. I'm conflicted on who to pull for.
As for the no huddle only a few quarterbacks can run it. Thank god we have one of those guys. I just wished we would've expanded on it more given matt ryans ability to grasp such concepts at a relatively early age. Matt ryan must be thinking "shit I've been doing no huddle since I was a rook" |

Things like using Hernandez as a RB are absolutely brilliant. TE's line up in the backfield as an H-back all the time, but the first time I saw Hernandez as the deep back, only for him to then run it (I think on a sweep) I was dumbfounded. He had like 61 yards rushing on 5 carries that game. That's a helluva wrinkle to be able to add to your offense.
Having an athletic player like Hernandez is half the battle, but the other half is calling plays like that. Hopefully Koetter has tricks like this up his sleeve. I don't think they did it as much this year, but last year they also ran TE screen's to Hernandez that were very effective. A few other teams that have athletic TE's did it as well this season. I don't think we could use Gonzalez effectively in that type of play, but if we grab a young guy . . . |

When Reeves was here, Koslovski was the H-back, TE and FB (reserve for Bobby Christian). He could play all 3 spots, and played them all well. It seems to me that kind of versatility ought to be exploited, especially now that we run so much no huddle. You have a defense on the field that is good against the pass and you're in a spread formation? Put the TE in at FB and run the ball. If they adjust to stack the box? Split him wide and fling it. It seems to me the ability to exploit personnel mismatches would be huge in that kind of a system. |

Kordell was talented and young and did whatever you asked of him for the team. Hernandez is the same way. Gonzo isnt going to line up at FB or HB. He doesn't want to take that beating. It would be interesting to see what will be done with Kerry Meier. I think he can be flexible enough to be moved around the field in multiple positions. I remember a few years ago after the 18-1 season and followed up with playoff loss after playoff loss, the press was wondering whether Belichick and Brady were at the end of their lines. Now they ar hyped back up to the top. It's amazing what a few playoff wins can do for you. Think about it Smitty and Ryan. |
