Personally, I have always hated LSU with a passion. Besides, most LSU fans I know are Cowboys fans anyway. Dude, you're from north louisiana. Most people, not just LSU fans from north Louisiana were Cowboy fans before the Saints started winning. To say that LSU fans from New Orleans/BR are cowboys fans is just plain reDICKulas. |

Since it was a waterfront home it had to be demolished. You're right I don't know anything about you -- and you know nothing about me OR Katrina, BOY. You can Google the number of fraudulent FEMA claims for any disaster. Did you know there are FAR more prosecuted fraudulent FEMA claims from people OUTSIDE New Orleans than inside New Orleans for Katrina? That there are more prosecuted fraudulent claims from Mississippi Gulf Coast than the New Orleans area? I'm sorry that you lost your home in Ivan -- but the two situations are drastically different. I lost everything in Katrina and was not allowed back to my house until over a month after, and then only to document the losses. It's a huge difference between the Gulf Coast losses in hurricanes where you can at least get to your destroyed house a few days after and are not kept out because there is still standing water -- where weeks afterwards there are threats of malaria, typhoid, all kinds of diseases and you have to show proof you were inoculated to get back to your own property. And no offense to Pensacola, but it is not as densely populated and to its credit has not nearly the same number of poor residents as New Orleans or St Bernard. It's not as much a matter of "lets get in there and clean up" -- there's a matter of "I can't even get back home, and if I do I can't stay at home because of the mold and mud and muck and there is nowhere nearby to stay." If you are familiar with New Orleans you know the residents of St Bernard Parish are fiercely working class mostly white residents who had the same problems with rebuilding and getting back to normal as those in the Ninth Ward or Gentilly or Broadmoor. They would have been right with you harping on the "hands outstretched to the government" residents of New Orleans and probably some still would today even though they went through and some still are going through the same problems rebuilding. So yeah, piss off with your "Google" experience on what happened and is happening in New Orleans and the surrounding areas. I don't claim to know what you and Pensacola went through in Ivan and I don't sit in high judgement of you or others who went through it as if I am superior based on my "Google" research. |

RE: The victim mentality in New Orleans
Why do Saints fans come on here of all places for sympathy?
I know we are good people and all but come on this is a Falcons board. We are going to enjoy this and rub it in some. Also let go of Katrina. It was a national tragedy on a level that we as a nation have yet to fully comprehend. If winning a Super Bowl helps out a city that had watched dead bodies float through town, than so what? It's just a game. Life is finite. What happened to those people in the ninth ward was sickening. They were left there to die. |

Hoping for death and despair on a group of people because of the football team they follow is pathetic. It seems that the fact that government fraud and neglect caused the destruction of an American city has been forgotten and forgiven.I don't live in a flood zone. My house survived katrina. My house had a foot of water in the attic due to "yes, we know the levees are weak, but, let's not tell anyone."The problem isn't that you're a Falcons fan.The problem is that you're an asshole. |

RE: The victim mentality in New Orleans
The dude talking about fraudulent claims out of New Orleans is full of shit. I was a fraud investigator for Travelers during Katrina and the 5 years after, and NO residents who left NO and came to Atlanta were the most criminal lazy pitiful hand open demanding free shit false claim making dirtbags that I've ever come across.
I worked over 1000 suspect claims that got rolled up to my unit and in the end, 93% of them had elements of fraud. The biggest one was claiming their car was flooded and left in NO. But then I'd survail them here in Atlanta and catch them driving the car around just fine. I had to listen to so much lieing right to my face it completely numbed my empathy for their situation. I let hundreds and hundreds of people go without prosecution after busting them for lieing. And I was threatened dozens of times after confronting someone about being caught trying to commit fraud. The people who migrated out of NO are by far the worst human beings I've ever met. |

Since it was a waterfront home it had to be demolished. Yea, my neighborhood in Pensacola had a tornado go through it. Could only get to the house after 1 week and using a bobcat to clear debris. Pensacola has had it's fair share of damage from hurricanes. The worst damage occurred because of 2 hurricanes. #1 Hurricane Erin. Came in and took out part of the sand dunes. #2 Hurricane Opal. Took out the remaining dunes. There was no time to rebuild and there was no good clean sand to use. Opal devastated the beach. Life on the island hasn't been the same since. I have a friend that lost their house twice. Having to rebuild. And just when they got finished rebuilding from Erin, Opal came in and destroyed it again. Whether we admit it or not, Katrina and any other hurricane is no different. If you lost your home, then you encountered the same thing as another person from a different disaster. And disease in Katrina was caused mainly by the location, being in a swamp, and the people having unclean habits to begin with.
