meh......it's espn. I've said this already, but gonna repeat it anyway. The niners beat two weak teams back to back, blew them out for a combined score of 79-3. how did that matter against the defending champs? it didn't, they lost.
as Al Davis was famous for saying "JUST WIN BABY" Chew on THAT, Petunia!

I like to point this out.
The niners had a bad game and lost. The texans had a bad game and lost. The pats had a bad game and lost. The eagles had a bad game and lost. The cards had a bad game and lost. The Vikings had a bad game and lost. Last week the Packers had a bad game and lost. The Falcons had a bad game and won. See the difference. Which would all those teams rather have? Like Dr. Thomas Wayne said, "Bruce, why do we fall down? So, we can pick ourselves up again." The Falcons always get back up. |

This dude is so slanted in his tone. He could have written that a lot more objectively. It sounds like he doesn't like us and trying to nitpick away 6-0.
No team is going to be top 10 in every category. We're top 10 in a lot of them, especially on the passing offense side and certain parts of defense. We play a nickle package and allow a lot of running against us to help shut down the big passes and hope for the higher percentage takeaways. I'm ok with trying to turn a team one-dimensional and going after turnovers. It's obviously working. |

Crappy analysis! It seems to replicate at ESPN. Instead of stating the obvious, why didn't this so-called expert clearly identify the problem areas? Answer: he doesn't watch the games.
The Falcons' problems are fixable. As a matter of fact, I expect the run defense to get a sizeable upgrade with the return of Corey Peters. It may take a few games to get him back into football shape, but he will be primed for the playoffs. I am not worried about our defense. Remember that Nicholas was out last Sunday. His return will also mean a lot to this D. The offense has one main problem.....Right Guard. This position has a rookie that is being primed to replace Reynolds. Don't be surprised if Konz is manning that position when the Falcons play in Philly. Our problems exist, but they are not complicated fixes. This team is going to improve. I, for one, am very happy that the Falcons are not getting much love in the media. The constant criticism keeps us on point. I feel very good about this season......very good. |

RE: The Falcons' potentially fatal flaws[ESPN]
One area that I'm very happy about is the lack of penalties. Penalties have never been a huge issue under Smitty but last year penalties sky rocketed from 58 for 598 yards in 2010 to 93 for 769. Both of those numbers were by far the worst for the Falcons in a season since Smitty took over. But this year the penalties are back down big time. In 6 games the Falcons have committed just 18 penalties for 152 yards and 8 of those game in that MNF against the Broncos when the replacement refs were calling everything under the sun. In the other 5 games the Falcons have exactly 2 penalties apiece. Part of the reason the Falcons were able to overcome the turnovers against the Raiders was because they were penalized just 2 times for 25 yards while the Raiders were penalized 12 times for 110 yards. That made up for a huge offensive yardage advantage the Raiders had over the Falcons.
