Your average football fan couldn't pick a single Falcons' player out of a lineup other than Gonzo. It is all a numbers game and RGIII is a numbers magnet now. Depends on what your definition of average is.... If that's the case people only know Brees on the Saints or Cam on the Panthers or Brady on the Pats or Ray Lewis on the Ravens based on what I think your definition of average is. On the Saints they may know Vilma, but not for football. Actually I think the Falcons may have more recognized faces than the Saints do, but you certainly have the more popular player. Thats what its all about. The more popular player, not the team with the most known players. Also of course the team brand is a big factor as well. Teams like the Cowboys may not have the most popular player, but have rabid fans all over the place who will watch no matter what. |

I would would classify myself as something more than an average fan. I am an NFL addict. I can honestly say that I couldn't pick any of them out. Julio Jones is distinctive because of the physique and the hair, but he still isn't that recognizable to me standing in a line with several other well built black men with long hair. I feel much of the reason is the clear lack of promotion. There are many players that are always in the public eye due to commercial endorsements and such. Gonzo has been front and center for year, but the other just aren't out there or are somewhat nondescript like Ryan. And it's not just the Falcons. Several teams are in the same boat. This isn't a slam on the Falcon players at all, but an observation. It is the same reason Atlanta always seems to be halfway ignored in national coverage. Saints Fan Since 1967

This is by no means any offense to you but I wouldn't classify you as an NFL addict then. I think I can name and point to a picture of about 10-15 players per team.

Ryan's problem is that he looks just like Joe Average. There is nothing distinctive about him. Romo has the dimple and goofy-assed grin. Eli has that dopey look and Manning has the pencil-neck. Brees has his birthmark, RGII has the grin and hair. Rodgers has those weird-assed eyes and Rivers has those crazy looking eyes. They all have features that make them very recognizable and therefore it is easier for the casual fan to identify with them. Saints Fan Since 1967

When Ryan wins a SB, then that average joe excuse will go far out the window. And no this is not an opportunity for you to claim we won't win one. |

I would imagine that it would help make more players recognizable. I guess I probably could identify and name 10-15 players on most teams, but not all. As familiar as I am with the Falcons I usually only see them with their helmets on. There was that bus commercial, but I really didn't know many of the players at all. Saints Fan Since 1967

RE: TV Maps For Week 8
I'll just say team records should mean something. Eagles play in the most popular division in the NFL and are 3-3. Falcons are 6-0. Combined record of 9-3. That should mean something.
