Spags is a good hire, probably the best choice available to the Saints, but loosing Williams forced them to do it. Spags might have been the best available at the time, but he is not an upgrade over Greg Williams. This is a lateral move for them.

Not really. Spags being available allowed them to do it. The Saints didn't even try to keep Williams. As we all know, Williams runs a novelty defense. As Saints LB Scott Shanle pointed out recently, opposing offenses had figured out Williams' scheme. It just wasn't working anymore.
