NFL: Sources: Saints to hire Rob Ryan

I heard it replayed today on the radio here around noon. It was definitely Sean Payton and he definitely said "again"

There are two things I used to determine this:

1. It was Sean Payton's voice.
2. Just before playing the clip the show host said "let's hear what Sean Payton has to say about it."

Now, there was no mention of a thumbs up or anything so there could be conspiracies in play.

What station and what show? I posted the entire taped interview from Mike and Mike and it mentioned no prior interview.

Okay, I found a story that quoted Payton as saying "again" in reference to the Ryan interview.

Now, here is another story with the EXACT quote from the Mike & Mike interview:

"We're going to bring in two to three candidates," Payton said. "I think we'll know in a week. Much was reported about Rob Ryan, and he's going to come in and interview here at the end of this week. We'll have, I'd say, at least between two and four candidates."

The second version is indeed what he said on the taped interview I posted earlier.

The author of the first version heard "again" when Payton clearly said "at the end" as the tape verifies.

I just corresponded with Larry Holder, the Saints beat writer for the Times-Picayune. He verified that Rob Ryan has not had an interview for the Saints DC job yet. Friday will be his first. He did indicate that Ryan had been contacted, but nothing 'formal' was the word he used.

Except for the fact that I actually heard Payton say "again" in the clip that was played on the radio. He did not say "at the end of" on the clip I heard. He absolutely positively and very clearly said, "AGAIN".

The words came out of his own mouth and afterwards, the crew on the station spoke about the fact they heard him say it too.

Don't know what to tell ya bub. There's no way I and everybody else imagined it and then all acknowledged hearing it too.

Payton obviously did more than one interview.

Larry Holder knows if and when Payton farts and he confirmed to me personally that this Friday's interview will be Rob Ryan's first with the Saints. If you can tell me what radio station and what show you supposedly heard that on I may be able to round up the audio. If it referenced the Mike & Mike bit then we have already heard the audio.

Now, if it was a different interview with Payton that you heard I suppose he could have queried Ryan about whether he would be interested in the job while Ryan was in town for the Super Bowl. That could explain the phrase "back here again" if he did indeed say it, but I have absolute confirmation from Holder who knows for certain that Ryan has not interviewed with the Saints or Payton to date.
