RE: Signings Around The League
You know, denial won't change the fact that Harper will be on your team next year. If Loomis wanted Harper gone next year, like you claim is an already-accepted deal, he would have done the deal differently.

Roman Harper is so old he should be starting on the Falcons DL.

And how would he have done the deal may I ask? The contract was extended one year to lower the cap hit this year and ALL guaranteed salary was shifted to the current season meaning the entire 2014-15 numbers are meaningless. The deal was done so there would be no dead money whatsoever if Harper is cut next year and it lowered the amount he would have been due if he was retained next season.

This gives Harper a chance to show what he can do in Ryan's defense. If he steps it up he can be kept for a smaller number, or if he doesn't cut it he can be released with no cap hit at all.

I'm sorry, but you don't know what you are talking about.

Let me introduce you to Pat Yasinskas:

Let’s take a look at the details.

Harper had been scheduled to have a $7.15 million cap figure for this year. But the Saints trimmed that number to $3.66 million. They did that by reducing Harper’s base salary from $5.25 million to $840,000. But the Saints helped cushion the blow by giving Harper a $2.91 million signing bonus.

The Saints also lowered Harper’s 2014 cap figure from $7.9 million to $5.87 million by cutting his base salary from $6 million to $2.35 million.

Harper’s previous contract was scheduled to end after the 2014 season, but the Saints added another year to the new deal. Harper is scheduled to make $2.7 million in base salary in 2015 and he also can collect a $650,000 roster bonus and a $150,000 workout bonus. Harper’s 2015 cap figure is scheduled to be $4.47 million.

The Saints now are $5.185 million under the 2013 cap.

******** Back to Me *********

So, since I don't know what I'm talking about, care to explain how Harper’s 2014 cap figure of $5.87 with a base salary of $2.35 million would leave you without a cap hit should he be cut?

The renegotiated contract lowers this year's cap hit by $3.6M. If unused that can carry over into next year and would cover almost all of his dead money if cut. If he doesn't get cut then his cap hit would be lower than his previous deal. They are talking like they plan on keeping him around. He excelled in Gregg Williams' attacking defense and I expect that Ryan may use him in the same manner. We'll see.

Without the new contract structure he would have had to have been cut. Now keeping him is an option. He knew he was gone unless he agreed to restructure.
