You are naive if you think any upper tier player would take anything less than as much as he could get in his first and possibly only chance at a mega deal. The price tags are going down on non QB's as is evidenced by the free agency this off-season, but you can expect the QB pay to keep rising with every new contract. After you make so much money, money isn't your only driving force. It isn't naive to know that a QB who takes too much of the limited cap will hurt the acquisition of better talent around him, and that a QB not driven by money will consider 80 million to be just as good as 100 million for 5 years. Ryan has always proven to be down-to-earth and not worldly, and his college-girlfriend wife has not changed his world to one where only wealth matters. I know that Ryan is going to focus on team first, and not grab every dollar he could (unlike some QB's we know). He has made more money already than he could spend in his life, with the way he lives (he didn't have to settle for the rookie deal QB's coming out now do). I guarantee that his focus in on the ring no amount of money could buy, but a large contract would destroy. You don't have to bet me, but you will see I am right when the deal is done, and it will make you look at your greedy declining-skilled QB and cry (if you could be honest with yourself). All you need to say is Tom Brady to support your claim that there are QB's out there that will take a lesser deal to make sure his team remains competitive. Not everyone is an egomanic jerk like Drew Brees or Joe Flacco. ![]()

RE: Signings Around The League
Ryan's rookie deal was for over $72 million, and that was before his endorsement deals with Nike and Airtran, or his razor commercials and other sources of income. He was the 4th-highest paid QB before he ever played a snap.
He has already banked more in his first 5 years than any human would ever need, even if he gave all 3 of his siblings and his parents $5 million just because on top of what he made. And now he's about to sign a deal which will likely have at least $35-40 million more guaranteed no matter what. Do you really think a guy like Matt, with everything the guy has shown, professionally and personally, will try to hold the team up for money now like Breez did the Saints? This guy could get handed a $100 Million contract tomorrow and no one would blink (most would call it a deal, seeing as how QB contracts have gone). I STILL bet, though, that Ryan doesn't handicap the team with what he could take, and will settle in the $80 Million range, allowing for everyone else to ride along with him. Either way, they guy is going to walk away with over $200 Million (not counting deals and endorsements) from his NFL career, probably closer to $275 Million (as he should play for more years than these two contracts). Do you really think he will distress over only getting $275 million instead of $325 million? The only thing that would trump this is his agent and the NFLPA stepping in and making him take a certain amount so that both the agent and future players are not hindered by his changing the possible scale (see other QB's insist on Flacco getting over $100 million, with Brees leading the cheers). All he did was negotiate a two year extension which INCREASED his guaranteed salary by $30 million up to $52 million. Yes, it did lower his cap hit for 2013-14, but it also included a $30 million signing bonus. Brees has already implied he'll do the same thing when his amount applied to the cap becomes excessive in 2015. Ryan will get his money when the time comes. He isn't stupid, nor is his agent. Above all the NFL is a business and the players are contractors. The average NFL player is broke within five years after retiring. There are a few smart ones out there that prepare, though, and part of that preparation is getting as much as you can when you can. Ryan is far too smart to settle for less than he can earn. Think that Ryan will get a deal done. As hope that they will pay him handsomely. He is the face of the franchise!
