He got what the market warranted. It was slightly bigger than Brady's and Manning's previous ones and less than what Flacco received. You can rest assured that Matt Ryan's next contract will be even bigger still as will all other top QB's coming up on renewal.

And he would not be giving any back. Brady didn't give any back, in fact, he got and additional $22 million guaranteed in the extension. These salary caps can be manipulated successfully as long as you do it correctly and Mickey Loomis is one of the best at working with them.

Not with those pieces alone, but Ben Watson is a very nice replacement for David Thomas and should have come at a very cap friendly rate. Humber is perhaps the second best special-teamer next to Roby and a good re-signing, as well.

I know we already have a bet, but want to bet Ryan takes a lot less than the $20 mill a year average he should? TD doesn't put the team in jeopardy with his deals, and Ryan has proven to be nothing but a "company man" and team player.

The only reason Ryan wouldn't get a deal in the $20 million range is because his agent couldn't convince the Falcons he was worth it. You are naive if you think any upper tier player would take anything less than as much as he could get in his first and possibly only chance at a mega deal. The price tags are going down on non QB's as is evidenced by the free agency this off-season, but you can expect the QB pay to keep rising with every new contract.
