The big problem here is that they were warned and ultimately given a free pass. I can agree with all of that. I am pissed myself about any covering up which was done. But, fans will be fans and it is hard to be objective when it is your team in the sights. I have preached this for as long as I have been a member here, "All fan bases are the same. They just happen to wear different colors on game day." I have never come here to troll. I like this site because it happens to be one of the best in the league and very similar to my home site, B&G. I put up with a great deal of crap here because I actually do really like a number of the regulars. It would have been easy to disappear while all of this was going on, but I really felt that it needed to be discussed. I know the management here knows I do my best to avoid undue controversy, but some things deserve other viewpoints. Yes, I'll admit I am a homer. What is wrong with that. I have been one since the franchise came into existence and I will remain one until the day I die. I attempt to be as logical as I can, but you must understand that logic sometimes has difficulty coexisting with passion. I apologize to any of you I have upset, but do not expect me to change. RE: Saints World Crumbling
We don't need you around to bash on the Saints
![]() I don't have any issues with Guido anymore than I have issues with anyone else. He's a homer. He's not a dick. I'm not really sure why people bring up homerism all the time. Yes, it makes you blinded but some people would call optimism hormeristic. Unfortunately for Guido this means his teams shot at the post season will depend on how bad the other teams suck this year. They will be at best 8-8 this year. There is no possible way they will be fully ready for any game. Also, I don't believe Payton being suspended makes a lick of difference. I hope he gets caught not listening to his suspension. Just like during the lockout, he's not gonna listen.

Statements along the lines of "we broke the rules but everyone else did too" completely miss the larger issue here. The Saints franchise by their actions and words have displayed the same contempt for the game as Bellicheck and the Patriots. Supporting that attitude casts you in the same mold. Now if you go take a long think and then accept the fact that Payton brought this on himself and that the rest of the front office took their cues from his moral deficiencies and that it has rubbed off on the whole team including your QB and the offense (who also play fast and loose with the rule book), then my respect for you will be restored. Right now not so much. |

RE: Saints World Crumbling
I don't think this situation calls for homerism at all. I understand homerism because I am a homer myself.
This is moreso right or wrong. I was a huge Vick fan but I can look at him and say he did something stupid and whatever punishment he gets is deserved. Thats how I look at Payton. Thats the punishment everybody is up in arms about. I respect the heck out of Payton but the fact is he was warned and he lied and covered it up for years. Whatever he gets he deserves. So I'm not asking to step off the homer status that you hold so dear. Yes cheer til your head falls off bc I would do the same. This situation is on a diff level. Since we are talking other fans acting the same...what about if it was opposite? What if instead of the Saints it was the Falcons and Mike Smith got suspended for a year? Would u feel the punishment was to severe then? |

I was one of those that thought the whole Spygate thing was way overblown. You see, I came from that 70's era of antiestablishmentarianism. I have always rebelled against the administration. Too many rules hamper creativity. That said, I believe I would still disagree with the outcome. I can't say for sure, but I believe my distaste for "The Man" would overcome any dislike of the Falcons. Saints Fan Since 1967

RE: Saints World Crumbling
How can Saints fans sit there and act like they are the victims? The Saints were the ones trying to injure players, the Saints were the ones that not only broke the rules they lied to the league and continued to try and injure players and went around the salary cap to do it.
The Saints are not the victims, they are the criminals and are getting punished for it. Saints fans need to suck it up and take their lumps, The Saints have gotten WAY to many breaks anyway in the league it is now time to pay the piper. Stop acting like the Saints did not cause this upon themselves, they were freaking WARNED years ago and still did it. The Saints have been getting pampered by the League for a few years now and the Saints took advantage of that and spit int he face of the NFL. Saints = Guilty, Guilty, Guilty Sit there and take your punishment and stop whining. |

Don't waste your time. The idiots will never think otherwise so it's useless arguing with them. MOD EDIT: Rule 1 goes for Saints fans as well.

Maybe because the Saints fans ARE the victims. Did we do anything wrong as fans? What ever happened was totally out of our hands as fans, yet I continue to read that the Saints fans deserve everything they are going through, even here on this site. Y'all were the victims as fans when Vick ran your asses through the ringer. As fans we do not deserve this punishment anymore than you did. Drop the holier than thou crap when it come to the fans. We have just as much influence as you over anything that goes on. Are you so shallow that you can't see that? I'm sorry, but your condescending attitude toward innocent fans gives me as little respect for you as for the assholes that brought this upon us. The attitude you are displaying is becoming to run rampant in sports today. When I started going to games all fans from both teams were there for the entertainment. There was never any animosity. Although, thing have changed in the last 15 to 20 years. The other fan has become the enemy for some reason. I can't understand why, though. We are all the same. We all have families. We live, work, laugh, cry and eventually die. Our teams are a release. Yes, they become part of us, but we are NOT part of them. We have no say on what they do. I am not meaning to attack you individually. It is an attack on society as a whole when it comes to sports. Of course fans are going to become defensive when attacked over something totally out of their control. That is human nature. I can discuss and even understand criticism of the team I love and support, but attacking the fans that are no different than you ... ... I'm sorry but my blood pressure is getting a little high. I need to chill out. As I have stated before, for the most part the membership here are smart, friendly and entertaining. Good people. Saints Fan Since 1967

Suck it up and take it, your team Royally fucked up, they are guilty they admitted guilt they cheated and got a SB out of it and along the way injured players because of it. You deserve criticism because your still trying to defend them and deflect blame, still trying to make excuses. Don't, now is the time to shut up be humble and take your lumps for being a Saints fan. If you Saints fans were actually sane you should be pissed at the team for doing this to you. Instead you guys are making excuses for your abusive team like a beaten wife and it is pathetic. |
