Quote:Source: Saints 'refused' to provide a 'declaration of support' for suspended players

As we detailed earlier today, the NFLPA and NFL are approaching an interesting discovery deadline on Friday, in advance of the appeals for four suspended Saints players on Monday.

The players appealing are attempting to gather as much evidence in their favor as possible. Making matters more difficult for the union is the Saints refusal to come to the players' public assistance in the appeals process.

A union source tells CBSSports.com that in early April, the NFLPA requested the Saints send to the NFL a declaration of support for the suspended players who were punished, on the grounds that said punishment was too severe.

Per the source, the Saints refused.

I love it! Even their own team isn't on their side.

They have their own problems with Loomis and the FBI. Their lawyers have already told them to shut their mouths and hope this blows over, as they have much more to loose. No wonder he bought into the NBA.... hedging his bets! ROFL

Depth has plenty of talent. Nobody knew what Romeus would produce since he has always been hurt.

Of course they are, but they were threatened by Goodell to keep there mouths shut if they wanted back in the league. There have been reports of this recently ... at least the part of not talking about it at all.

Exactly what problems are you referring to with Loomis and the FBI? That bogus wiretapping deal has withered away and the Saints have hired the ex-head of the FBI's firm to investigate the allegations. I'll guarantee you that there are a few people out there that are more than a little worried and some of them are from the league offices.

That evidence has been released to the players and their lawyers and it appears that the none of the 200 pages implicates any of the players as having taken part in a bounty program targeting players for injury as claimed. According to Vilma's attorney there is no mention of any bounty placed by Vilma on any player nor any bounty placed on any player by anybody. Perhaps both of those "multiple sources" have reneged on their claims.

The CBA requires the league to produce all evidence they are to present in the appeal process 72 hours prior to the hearing. If that is all they have then they have no more than they have produced since day one.

Yes, you are right, ATL, it keeps getting better and better.

Oh! And apparently, the supposed ledger remains supposed because it was not part of any evidence released. You don't "suppose" the league lost faith in it, do you?
