RE: Saints Bounty Thread
Haha, I love these passages out of Payton's book, "Home Team":

Quote:"We agreed: If we were going to Miami, Ornstein would oversee the non-game logistics. Room assignments. Travel plans. How many tickets Reggie’s family might need. If you think issues like those can’t erupt into major catastrophes . . . I don’t know all the details of what Mike Ornstein did. But I do know the players and their families were extremely well taken care of."

Quote:“I had Mike Ornstein running special ops. Mike had no official title with the Saints. His name appeared nowhere on the team payroll or organizational chart. But he played an absolutely crucial role in the Saints’ Super Bowl victory, and hardly anybody knows what he did . . . More than anyone else I know, he understands how to get things done in the pro-sports world. He also has a taste for mischief … Now he was a close friend of mine and a great asset to the team, flying into Miami and softening up the off-field for us.”

It's just amazing how Guido can attest how big of a scumbag and liar this guy was while trying to distance the team and Payton from him, but then turn right around and believe 100% that his email to Payton was honestly just "in jest".

First of all, you're just NEVER going to be able to distance yourself from the guy when there's a freaking book written by your coach openly acknowledging him as a close friend and great asset to the team.

Second, you don't get to flip so easily on the guy from unbelievable to absolutely believable in an instant. If you don't see the ridiculous quandary in that, then you're a buffoon and need to try a different spin tactic.

Well obviously those parts of the book were written by a ghost writer without Payton's knowledge or consent. The ghost writer has a well known reputation of being a scumbag. In fact Payton didn't even read those passages until the book was already in print. The reason he didn't deny it after the fact is that he is not a member of a writer's union and had no recourse. He just pretty much had to take it. Besides none of this is evidence of anything anyway what with artistic license and all.

And yes there is no way you can take Atlanta talk radio seriously because they come with an inherent bias against the saints. A saints fan posting on a rival board has no bias whatsoever, the model of intellectual honesty, more unbiased than an ideal supreme court justice. Given that and the fact that he also used to be in the media he should be trusted implicitly, I shouldn't really have to state this, it's so obvious.

So you see Guido we have your act down perfectly, you schooled us well, we don't need you anymore we can handle it ourselves. So do us all a favor and find the swamp rock you crawled out from under and go back to the people that actually like you cause there are fewer and fewer of those around here, that is if there are any at all.

Never lived under a swamp rock. I was born in the Black Hills of South Dakota and moved to northwestern Louisiana back in 1967 when I was nine.

And, yes, I know all about Ornstein. I read that book back in July 2010 when I was in the hospital recovering from my cancer surgery. You have to admit Ornstein was pretty slick especially when spending someone else's money. In case you didn't read it, Ornstein had the Saints buy extravagant gifts for the player's wives and they got a different one every day of the week before the game. When the Colts' wives heard what the Saints' wives were getting they complained to their husbands. Just what the Colts needed trying to get prepared for the game.

That in no way lessens the fact that the PS in that email was a joke. And, no, the Saints can never distance themselves from him. He is now an ex-con, but was a hanger on during the Super Bowl season.

You have no proof that email was a joke.

So conjecture about the email and then smear the undesirable.

The email itself wasn't a joke. He talked about his prison experiences. Ornstein said that the PS was just an ongoing joke making fun of the NFL's claim that the Saints had a bounty on Favre in the 2010 playoff game.

That said, Goodell has no proof that it wasn't a joke. Right?

It isn't our job to prove a negative. Taking the statement at face value is the objective approach.

So you have no proof it was a joke, like I said.
