It seems to me a federal Judge wouldn't take kindly to being told how to rule by a lawyer and former commissioner. I think this makes a nice yellow journalism sensationalist soundbite, but I don't think it in any way reflects the reality of what goes on in a courtroom.

Obviously you are an expert on that, and I'm not, but I agree with you. I think his main focus was on saving face for Roger, and just not giving Vilma that bullet, regardless of how effective or ineffective it would have been.
