You couldn't be more wrong. Anger only comes from getting caught? That's ridiculous. A person caught is much more likely to be contrite than angry. A person falsely accused is far, far more likely to be angry. I know I would be furious if I was accussed of doing something that I knew I didn't do. I would be even angrier if I was severely punished for something I didn't do. If it was something that I knew I deserved I would accept it and move on. You can't tell me that you wouldn't have the same reactions or if you did I would have an extremely hard time believing you.

Well thats an extremely poor piece of evidence. This is why I think its foolish to think he did this because of the liability.

Thats already done. It doesn't lessen or go away. It doesn't even affect it. The liability is about years prior to this whole "bounty" thing....wayyyyyy before.

I think thats a poor excuse.

It absolutely is a poor excuse. But guess what Goodell did today? A half hour ago I received the following "letter" from him via email. He is clearly continuing to play the bounty card as evidence of the league's new found commitment to player safety. This is pathetic.

To NFL Fans:

The 2012 NFL regular season is about to begin, and it promises to be another exciting, competitive, and unpredictable year of football which NFL fans have come to expect every season.

Part of our responsibility in helping teams and players prepare for each NFL season is to make sure they understand and respect league policies and rules. As always, we hold everyone, including ourselves, strictly accountable for protecting the integrity of the game, starting with the health and safety of our players. This year is no exception - bringing with it a clear, consistent, and renewed emphasis on enforcing our longstanding “bounty” prohibition.

Let me be clear: there is no place for bounties in football. No exceptions. No excuses. Bounties are an affront to everything that competitive sports should represent. Everyone in the NFL is responsible for adhering to these rules and we are all accountable for protecting the safety of our players - present and future.

The bounty prohibition forbids offering or accepting any reward - cash or otherwise - for on-field misconduct, plays that incentivize or result in injury to opposing players, or for performance against an opposing player, group of players, or team. The bounty prohibition not only preserves the competitive integrity of our game, but also protects player safety by removing incentives that could lead to dangerous play or unnecessary and/or intentional injury. As a league, we will ensure that the prohibition against bounties is clearly understood and consistently enforced. Period.

We will aggressively protect the health, safety and long-term livelihood of our players, both on the field and off. We can preserve the fierce competition that makes football great, while simultaneously committing to the relentless pursuit of safer play. Our players do not make excuses on the field; we will not make them off the field.

It is our job to protect, preserve, and promote the game of football that we all love. We want an exciting game featuring the world’s most talented football players enjoying long and successful careers. The bounty prohibition plays an instrumental role in achieving that. And we are committed to holding every team, player and owner accountable.

We appreciate your interest and hope you enjoy the 2012 NFL season.

I love that Roger Goodell cares about player safety and the integrity of the game. Those people who "just don't get it" and resist his efforts should be permanently banned from the game. There is no room for hooliganism and angle shooting even in New Orleans where these things are part of the cultural heritage. It is time to grow up and think about the future of the game. Anything less is the road to ruin for the sport of football.

I got the same email. You only believe it is pathetic because the reference came from your favorite team. But to say it has everything to do with the liabilities I think is foolish. I always thought this but I figured I wasn't well informed to give a proper opinion. Now to prevent further liabilities...THAT makes sense. But who wouldn't

Yes, to prevent further injuries, but Goodell is addressing something that is not proven nor is it something that any player in the league would condone, including the Saints.

He is attempting to placate the fact that he swore to the fact that evidence showed that concussions suffered had no lasting affect. His "experts" swore that players had no negative affects from concussions.

But. as soon as the lawsuits started hitting the fan he started the "Player Safety" card including the bogus claims he laid upon the Saints.

RE: Saints Bounty Thread
Listen, ATLBound, I know you are very intelligent. I know, if you try, you can dig through the crap and see what is coming down.

Three years ago the NFL could give a flying crap if a player got maimed on the field as long as they made the HOLY dollar.

The 3000 plus lawsuits changed that philosophy and the sacrificial lamb was chosen ... the Saints.

The shit hit the fan, carefully placed by Goodell.

Good people who had never done anything more than any other team in the league to promote intensity were now being persecuted.

How is it that so many devout Christian athletes on the Saints roster would condone intentionally injuring an opponent.

I can't see it, and neither can they.

Since when did we as fans, as fans of the players, as those that believed in those that fought on the field for us, those that reigned us in ... since when did we begin to buy into the crap fed to us by the league lawyers? Since when did we begin to believe those people out to protect the league above and beyond protecting individuals were right?

All I ask of you is that you take the time to consider the facts, or the glaring absence of them, before you follow the lead of the Mightly And Glorious NFL!

RE: Saints Bounty Thread
Just... throw away the facts.

Listen to your heart.

Listen to your soul.

You have to believe in the Saints.

Saints are holy people, who are with God in heaven and Earth.

You cannot believe "King" Roger is being honest here?

I know it's hard.

You just have to... let go.

Let the truth speak freely from within.

The "King" has no clothes.
