Not really. So much depends on the evidence but hear goes nothin':

Vilma gets a 4 game suspension and a $200,000 fine.
About 15 other Saints players get fined for $50K to $100K.
Some players not currently on the Saints may also get fined.
That will be it.

Actually, that's close to what I'm thinking. Although, I say eight games (or more) for Vilma if Goodell has more than hearsay evidence that Vilma truly offered the $10,000. I think Will Smith may get two to four games only because he was a defensive captain at the time. I agree that it would be difficult to justify any other suspensions, although, as you mentioned, fines galore since Goodell doesn't need quite the proof for those.

Why on earth would you want congress to get involved? Did you forget that paying one person to injure another person is a FELONY!?! Anyone involved should feel extremely lucky that they are only facing suspension, and aren't at this point facing criminal charges.

The legal blanket under which bounties in sports would fall deals with bribery, not assault. But, there's no way anyone can prove that anyone explicitly "tried" to injure anyone anyway. There are claims of bounties, but no court in the nation will convict anyone without proof beyond a shadow of a doubt that that intent to injure existed. This would keep the players out of danger.

"Durbin, the Senate Majority Leader, wants to review whether bounty systems in the NFL could be considered a federal crime. According to Durbin, there is a chance that federal sports bribery laws could include bounties."

The reason I want this to go before Congress is to prove that Goodell and the NFL knew this has been going on for years and are only just now beginning to address it. If everyone is so concerned about player safety let it be known that the NFL has been covering up this stuff for years. Congress wouldn't be concerned with the Saints. They would be in it for the bigger picture.

The NFL has always said that coaches and the franchises themselves will be held to higher standards than the players. Payton and the others were not penalized as harshly as they were because of the so-called bounties. They caught their punishment because of lying about it.

Goodell said today that he is waiting on recommendations from the NFLPA before making any decisions about the players. I can't see the NFLPA recommending any sort of suspension. The Union protects their own and will always fight for the players.

Can you post here in this thread exactly the posted verified statements that Saints' personnel have admitted the bounty to injure system. I may have missed something, but I haven't seen "Damn near everyone" admit it.

Well?

Well?

For clarification please refer this question to Sean Payton, Mickey Loomis and Greg Williams. They have made their position clear.

The players' hammer has yet to fall.

I love the Falcons and to hell with anyone who doesn't!

RE: Roger Goodell: Saints continued lying “into the past several weeks”
Wait a minute...Goodell gives the Saints a warning to stop to avoid any sort of punishment two years ago and the Saints decided not to take heed and you want Goodell to get in trouble?????

The attitude is shocking right now. Yes, I agree that the bulk of the punishment came from the fact that their was a lie and cover up, BUT how will that be proven? All Goodell has to say is "No, the punishment came from the crime"

Wouldn't that be some karma for Goodell to cover up and lie about something. How ironic....lmao. The arrogance is appalling from Saints fans. Based on the reactions I of the notion that the worst is yet to come.
