NFL RPI Rankings Through Week 5

Edit: I just realized I had an error in my RPI formula. I made the correction and have updated the list below. In addition, I added to each team where they were ranked when I had the incorrect formula in use. I am going to continue using this feature in future posts to show how much movement is occuring week to week.

One thing I'm trying to do this season is keep track of RPI for every team in the NFL. I've held of posting the information before now due to a lack of data resulting in inconsistencies, however, I think we're nearing the point where the fluxuations from week to week won't be too drastic (I could be wrong in that regard). So, without further ado, here are the NFL RPI Rankings through Week 5 of the season.

They've had a monster schedule so far too

they've played #2, #5, #6, and #14 on that list

Yeah, Pittsburgh's schedule is really helping to push them to #1. They have played the toughest schedule in the league so far with opponents records at 14-5-0, a .737 winning percentage.

And think, they're most likely about to get better with their franchise QB coming back. That's scary.

Yeah, RPI basically means a team's strength of schedule.

The RPI is based on 3 components. The teams winning percentage. Their opponents winning percentage, and their opponents opponents winning percentage. These percentages are compiled, and by adding up RPI points you get an RPI rating.

Exactly. I also have a second version of RPI, one I'm dubbing Adjusted RPI, that removes Team X's results from the mix to give you a ranking. For example, the Falcons opponents are 10-14-0 on the year and their opponents opponents are 66-48-0. Under the adjusted scale, those numbers shift to 9-10-0 and 52-38-0.
