PlayStation 3 scores NFL Sunday Ticket
Original Article

Quote:Talk about a huge score for the PlayStation 3.

Sony has announced a deal with satellite TV provider DirecTV to bring the subscription service NFL Sunday Ticket to PS3 consoles.

The package includes access to up to 14 out-of-market football games every Sunday -- all in full HD -- and DirecTV's Red Zone Channel.

Sunday Ticket will cost DirecTV subscribers an extra $50, while the cost for non-subscribers is $339.95.

The NFL deal sets up PS3 as a significant sports hub. Sony offers similar services for pro baseball {$120 per season} and hockey {$179 for yearly access} in the form of MLB.TV and the NHL GameCenter.

Hmm, now I need to convince my wife to let me spend the $340.

Not being a gamer, I don't understand. some kind of modem must stand between the PS3 and DirectTV, musn't it? Kids who play games online do so through a modem don't they?

All you need for this is a high speed internet connection. Most ISPs provide you with a modem that gives you access to the service upon signing up.

Nice, but that price is a tad steep. I'd rather go to the sports bar for free.

Still, I do like the idea of having the avenue to get it outside of trying to find a stream each Sunday.

"TOUCHDOWN! MY GOD, A TOUCHDOWN! WE THREW IT TO HAYNES! WE JUST STUFFED THEM WITH FIVE SECONDS LEFT! MY GOD ALMIGHTY, DID YOU SEE WHAT HE DID? DAVID GREENE JUST STRAIGHTENED UP AND WE SNUCK THE FULLBACK OVER! … WE JUST STEPPED ON THEIR FACE WITH A HOBNAILED BOOT AND BROKE THEIR NOSE! WE JUST CRUSHED THEIR FACE!" - Larry Munson broadcast UGA vs Tenn, 2001

Rest In Peace, Larry. You will be missed.

Being surrounded by Bears and Packers fans, I actually have no desire to go to a sports bar. Sure, I know I'll get to see at least 3 games on regular TV this season, but doing this would be so much better.

However, I completely agree, the price is steep. I was thinking it should be about half what they're charging.

as a PS3 owner, I love this. Luckily for me, I live in Georgia, so barring another deployment, I should be around for the football season this year. This price is incredibly steep, especially if the PS3 network just so happens to get hacked again. That would be a huge chunk of change that Sony would have to pay back to their customers, and MLB.TV wouldn't be too excited about that either.

Just give me the Falcons games for 125 a year. Not interested, nor can I watch 13 games at once. Until then, I'll pass.

RE: PlayStation 3 scores NFL Sunday Ticket
not sure if the other thread disappeared somewhere (really didn't look that hard) but yeah like I said in the other mention about it, damn steep price for NFL package on PS3. Honestly if they dropped it to like $150, I'd be willing to shell, but honestly now AT&T/Directv is giving NFL package for their customers why charge people who can't get NFL package close to 400. Sorry I'll stick with streams and bars for the time being, until I either get Directv.

On a side note it would be cool to just use our xbox/ps3s for cable/tv purposes. Y'know not netflix/hulu+ but actual tv. Anyways /rant

I was excited to hear this...until I heard the price. OMG wow. That price is higher than the actual PS3 now! Way too much.

I'll shell out for the NHL on PS3 because I can watch the Blackhawks which became my NHL team after the Atlanta Flames were stolen when I was a kid and now I'm back to the Blackhawks after the Thrashers got stolen.
