RE: NFL Owners Want To Expand Playoffs?
I'm still pissed off that they legalized the forward pass, how dare they mess with the purity of the game!!!!!

Ok. I hate to use to Saints as an example to make my point but you guys have no problem with a 7-9 team being at home against a 10-6 team? Sorry but I do. That's absolutely insane.

Actually, the rule changes that made it impossible to cover the WR and the number of kickers that now routinely make 50+ yarders have changed the game to a degree where it is almost impossible for even good defenses to keep a team from getting into FG range after the OT coin flip. I think the new rule takes this into consideration.

The more I think about it the more I like the idea of a 16 team playoff. It would allow seeding based upon overall record. It would eliminate the open dates for the top seeds which gives us as fans four extra games to watch and keeps teams from getting cold.

RE: NFL Owners Want To Expand Playoffs?
I'm not sure if I'm ok with 16, but 14 I wouldn't mind. I would leave the top 2 seeds as the only seeds who are able to have a bye week. I think a bye week is still important to heal nagging injuries and I think the top teams in each conference deserve that as a bonus for having sustained success throughout the regular season.

Without the bye, I think it cheapens the regular season record. HFA isn't what it used to be in a lot of places. I think the "getting cold" thing is a coaching problem, not a scheduling problem.

Also another good thing about a bye in its current format is instead having to win 3 in a row to get to the SuperBowl, its only 2. Thats another benefit. It keeps the competitiveness of the regular season in tact.

Everything points to the OT change as being a positive change. He just seems to be an old coot talking about how he hates the prvilege children have with automobiles. He used to walk barefoot in the snow to school for 8 hours and then to work at the age of 4 and a half.

The new OT rules make the end more exciting to watch. Its not just winning the coin toss anymore. And it also makes teams think about going for the end zone when they know a field goal would work out just fine.

Wasn't the last SF Rams game exciting?

This has happened exactly once in a hundred years of NFL so I don't really have a problem with it. Besides that was just a great game to watch!

This is exactly what it's about. The old OT rule was fine for 1977 rules but now things are slanted towards the offense. I think they have struck the perfect balance with the current rules.
