NFL: Mike Martz

The key to the Martz offense is to have several Pro Bowl/HOF players.

Multiple Pro Bowl offensive linemen, two HOF wide receivers, a HOF RB that was one of the most versatile of all time, a future HOFer at QB, and a few Pro Bowl offensive linemen if I remember correctly.

Now, if we could just get that, then maybe we could light up the league like everyone expects us to.

What offense requires the QB to be able to zip the ball further than 40 yards, and bomb it more than 60? I don't recall a bunch of 80 yard bombs or 60 yard rope passes by Warner in his prime with the Rams.

People just don't get it. They don't understand the difference between a weak arm, and a guy who doesn't have a good deep ball.

Ryan's problems are simply from his mentality and mechanics. We've seen him throw a pinpoint rocket over 40 yards(Steelers preseason drop by Julio), and we've seen him chuck a bomb straight from his 2nd NFL game to White. Ryan isn't the type that looks to throw a rocket through a tight window though. He looks to lay one up on an arch that falls softly into his receivers hands. He's a touch passer rather than a gun slinger. The problem with this is that because you're lofting the ball so much, a slight error can be the difference between a breadbasket catch grossly over throwing your receiver, which is where he needs to work on his deep ball accuracy and anticipation.

Another problem he has is that he doesn't always set his feet when he throws. His mechanics can be sketchy at times, especially if he's been under a lot of pressure. Some guys are the type to try to cover for team deficiencies by rushing throws, running out of the pocket quickly, and all and all trying to do too much. When he tries to cover for his offensive line is when he has the most problems. Peyton Manning and Matt Ryan are similar in that sense, while Brady and Rodgers are the type to just take the sack rather than rush the throw.

Yep, I agree, if Ryan can get more accurate with his deep throws that will take the offense to the next level. I was hoping the new QB coach would help more with mechanics but these things take time.

Marshall Faulk may have helped with Martz's success in St. louis, but what I remember most was Kurt Warner playing like a football-throwing robot sent back in time from the year 3000.

I've always thought people called Ryan noodle armed because he wasn't accurate with the deep ball...and especially because once a play broke down, his field of play went from 40 yards to about 10...

No, there are a vocal minority that a certain that Matt cannot throw with any kind of velocity over 20 yards, and anything over 30 yards is going to look like a punt.

wow you guys really hate the idea, lol. Just with everyone raggin on the whole MM system and all, I would figure a different MM would be more "explosive" offense.
