Then he worked out a compromise with the league where he would stand for the national anthem but would close his eyes and say a Muslim prayer.

People cared for like 5 minutes.

That's probably due to the fact that Rauf was promptly suspended and, as a consequence, never refused to stand again.

The first settlers burned people alive for having slightly questionable faith.

Yeah, let's get back to that.

RE: Listen to Tim Tebow’s comeback against the Bears
lol wow, ya are just now figuring out that a country with Christian foundations would lean more towards the celebration of an openly Christian athlete??? Are you serious??? That's surprising, how?

And from what I've heard, he doesn't claim to have a relationship with god that anyone here couldn't attain...

From what I've observed throughout conversations, it seems to be the atheists that have the biggest problem towards him...simply because he's a man of faith. Putting someone's beliefs before their character, while judging someone, is supposed to be the religious nut's game remember???

in our particular superstition of Christianity one redeeming feature. They
are all alike founded on fables and mythology. Millions of innocent men,
women, and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been
burnt, tortured, fined, and imprisoned. What has been the effect of this
coercion? To make one half the world fools and the other half hypocrites; to
support roguery and error all over the earth."

That's what the author of the Declaration of Independence had to say about Christianity. I can provide some quotes from Sam Adams, Thomas Paine and Ben Franklin as well, if you'd like.

Which document can that quote be found in?

Not angry at all. Just really passionate about my lack of faith. It inspires me.

Kareem Abdul Jabbar
Muhammed Ali
Shaquille O'Neal

I mean there are endless examples of athletes who were outwardly and aggressively religious that disprove your hypothesis.

It comes across as anger.

RE: Listen to Tim Tebow’s comeback against the Bears
Persecution doesn't come from people not caring about a religion...it comes from people caring about it enought to hate it...in the WORLD Christians are the most persecuted. Not many people care enough about the other religions to even persecute on a consistent basis.

Look at cooper and his immediate reaction to the religion and hatred towards. I'm not too sure he would have quotes lined up from historic figures for any other religion, but as soon as he sees Christianity, all hell breaks loose...no pun intended.

http://www.monticello.org/site/jefferson...-quotation

The actual quote is from Jefferson's Notes on the State of Virginia, Query XVII.

Quote:"Difference of opinion is advantageous in religion. The several sects perform the office of a Censor morum over each other. Is uniformity attainable? Millions of innocent men, women and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been burnt, tortured, fined, imprisoned: yet we have not advanced one inch towards uniformity. What has been the effect of coercion? To make one half the world fools, and the other half hypocrites. To support roguery and error all over the earth."

From what I understand, that quote has been thrown around in numerous variations, some more accurate than others.

The only one of those athletes who could be referred to as "aggressively" religious would be Ali, and people cared for a lot longer than five minutes, I can assure you.

Besides, the stances that Ali and Rauf took were much more political in nature than they were religious.
