RE: Listen to Tim Tebow’s comeback against the Bears
I'm not a fan of Tim Tebow's brand of Christianity, for a lot of reasons immaterial to the point of this thread.

But it is seriously impossible not to pull for the guy. He's one of the few genuinely good guys around. Solid individual, and very inspiring. I'll say this -- if anyone can live up to this type of scrutiny and adoration, he's the guy.

I don't pull for him, I guess I pulled off the impossible. He's like the Heaven's Gate dude in a Broncos uniform.

RE: Listen to Tim Tebow’s comeback against the Bears
Guy bust his ass to become a football player.

For money, like so many? For girls? For fame?

No. Because it gives him an opportunity to use that position to build a hospital in a poor country, and support a school in another.

How can you be surrounded with the excesses of many pro athletes (selling and doing drugs, fighting dogs, "making it rain") and not stand up and applaud the example this young man is setting? I'm proud of the Falcons, and the example Matt and co set for my kids - though no athlete SHOULD be a role model, they often will have an impact - and am happy many can look to Tebow and have a similar fondness for his character.

True story... My daughter mentioned today, out of the blue, unprovoked, how nice it was that Matt married his college girlfriend instead of going after women who wanted him for money. I'm proud that Matt's good decision making was a positive for my daughter in a way I never would have even noticed.

Formerly SBC Falcon

"Dear Jesus, I need you. Please come through for me."

What a megalomaniacle prick.

As an Athiest, I dont care what anyone says...

The guy is a genuinely nice person. There is nothing fake about him, and he has a great attitude. I wish him nothing but success (Unless he's playing the Falcons). I understand that he's not a great QB, but how can you hate one of the few people that actually have ethics and morals? In a world as fucked up as ours, guys like Tebow are a breath of fresh air.

That actually hits on the issue I have with his theology as well, but to be fair, you omitting the next words out of his mouth after that totally obscures the context. Those words were "WIN OR LOSE, give me the strength to honor You."

Every time I've seen him interviewed he does a one liner thanking God / Jesus, then spends the bulk of the remaining time talking about his teammates. Seems like a solid character / team guy to me. I understand that for some people he has nowhere near enough thug-cred, but besides that it seems like just the kind of person you would want on your team.

Yeah, I loved how he tacked that on after he remembered he was wired for sound.

This world is so fucked up largely because cults of personality like Tebow have obfuscated substance and reason.

The fact that Tebow plays a genuinely nice person on TV means nothing to me. As far as I'm concerned, he's out there banging hookers when the cameras are off, just like any other televangelist.
