You can look at the stats from that era, and he didn't have any kind of historic numbers in any category. Not in gross average, net average, punts inside the 20, percentage of punts returned, or any other statistic was he clearly better than the other good punters in the league at the time. Ever see Joe Namath's horrendous career numbers? He shouldn't even be allowed a ticket in to the HOF. But he was the first to throw for 4000 so that must mean something. Not having punters in the hall of fame is ridiculous. Same for kickers. There is just one pure kicker. You can't win without either one. |
