RE: Jumping the shark after all these years...
LOL, that is the strangest article I've read regarding football operations in a LONG time. Everyone working there is scared to death and feel like they are being watched 24/7.

Exposed by the KC Star for its shoddy owner and GM in a damning front page story, I've now had more than enough, so I'm starting anew here and will be following the Falcons from this point forward. I know a great deal about the NFL but you will judge that for yourself over the next several days and weeks.

Meantime, I plan on getting fully up to speed on the ATL roster, having only a cursory interest in the team up to now. In other words, I'll try not to post anything stupid but no guarantees! Smile It will be nice to enjoy Tony G again if only for another year or two.

Awesome man! Its great to have you. You'll learn soon that most of us are jerks.Big Grin

You guys know that Thomas Dimitroff is Pioli's best friend, right? I wonder how much of that is going on at Flowery Branch?

I personally got to witness the Bobby Petrino culture, it can't be any more weird than that.

Were you the one with the Grady Jackson in his underwear in Petrino's hotel room story?

I didn't read the entire article but it sounded like they are tying to clean house from top to bottom organizationally (with some scorched earth along the way).

I'm interested hearing more about the KC situation. Also I'm curious to hear your opinions on the Falcons from your perspective as a long time fan of another team.

Thanks for the welcome from you and everyone else. I don't know if many here really care to hear a great deal of detail about the Chiefs and I see someone also has already posted a link to the lengthy KC Star story which I believe is totally accurate. In capsule form, the franchise took a nose dive when founder Lamar Hunt died and passed the owner's reins on to his moronic son, Clark Jr.

As to the Falcons, my view is they've done a remarkable job of righting their franchise following the Bobby Petrino affair. Stunning might be the better word. Credit Arthur Blank for recognizing his error and getting Dimitroff hired as his new GM and giving him the power and resources to do his job. Many owners, like Hunt Jr., mentioned earlier, don't know what they're doing and compound the problem by dropping a wet blanket over their entire organization by remaining in full control of every decision.

Interesting to note that Dimitroff and GM Scott Pioli of the Chiefs are still buddies from their days with the Patriots, and Pioli is so myopic that he only trades with those teams he has a past connection to in some way so I'm hoping Dimitroff can pick the pocket of Pioli by working a deal for CB Brandon Carr who is a RFA right now and one of the better corners in the NFL. But, that's conversation fodder for a later time perhaps.

We know all too well about bad ownership. The Smiths - first Rankin then his son Taylor were routinely referred to as "The Clampetts". There is definitely a clear divide between Pre-Smith and Post Smith Falcons. Fortunately Arthur Blank is the exact opposite of what you described - he has stated many times that he believes that you hire good people then get out of the way and let them do their job.
