It's more like "can't stand", kinda like sterotypical New Yorkers. (EDIT: until I get to know them individually) I've hated the Aints since I became a Falcons fan(98) so the animosity was already there. I was in HS when Katrina hit, and while I feel from the bottom of my heart for what happened to the people there and wouldn't wish that on anyone, I had more than my fair share of negative encounters with the NOians that moved here. I wouldn't dare say they "milked it", but they acted as if everyone was supposed to bow down at their feet. A lot of them were fakes, acting as if they were real gangstas back in NO so now they run everything here. I ended up in plenty of fights with them because I wouldn't be their bitch like other people would(I went to HS in a suburb of ATL and most of the Black kids there were super-suburban and dick-rode anyone who they thought was from the hood). Add that to the fact they were always wearing Aints stuff and I couldn't stand them. I know that we were a bunch of kids and everything, but that just put a generally bad taste in my mouth for people from Louisiana. I shouldn't have said hate because I have close friends from there too. But they just rub me the wrong way from the start.(until I get to know them individually) You're ok in my book though

To be honest, Katrina flushed much of the human scum out of the state. They are a tiny minority. Most of New Orleans' citizens are hard working good people. Those good people couldn't wait to get back and rebuild their lives. That bad minority just want a free ride. Sorry you had to deal with them, but those types come from everywhere. I'll bet there are even a fair number from Georgia that would fit that bill. Saints Fan Since 1967

To give you a little background before I explain my abhor for your ilk, understand that I have been in the insurance, securities, accounting, and financial planning field for 16 years and I'll be turning 40 this year. Currently I'm a CFP and partner in a wealth management firm, but in the course of my career evolution, I owned a consulting agency doing fraud investigation for insurance companies, attorneys, and law enforcement agencies. Between auto, home, injury, property, and numerous types of soft/hard fraud, my company would be contracted to either corroborate findings of their internal investigators or conduct whole investigations of our own as 3rd party evidence for court cases or arbitrations. That said, we were contracted by the 5 biggest insurance companies within days of Katrina and we spent 2 years doing investigations for fraud on claims made by alleged victims. And I can (and did in court many times) testify that your town is FULL of the most dishonest, contemptable, and pathetic human beings in this country. The amount of fraud that "Saints fans" attempted to perpetrate was beyond imaginable. Think about this before you ask how I know these people were Saints fans. The population of NO before Katrina was around 500k and around 350k after. Add about 500k to those numbers if you go outside the city and parishes. There were a little over "1.7 million" insurance claims totalling around $50 billion dollars made as a result of Katrina and nearly 800k of those came directly from metro-NO. Of the 2000 claims that my company investigated, 100% of them had some form of soft fraud (exagerations or lies) and almost 90% of them had outright hard fraud (blatent misrepresentation and extortion/exaction). The vast majority of which were people lieing about their cars being fludded, the amount of damage or property lost/stolen/washed away from their homes or businesses, and amount of lost wages or business income they suffered. My crew alone saved insurance companies over $20 million in insurance fraud claims and helped in the prosecution of about 750 people with a NO address. I've seen first hand what the folks in your town are like and it's repugnant and indefensible. Edit: I will add that not all these people were African American and/or of the lower economic class. You'd be surprised how many middle-class white families and sweet ole grandmas were part of this. And 85% of the people my company investigated still live in NO. |

My wife is a malpractice claims adjuster for a company that insures most of the hospitals in the state. The vast majority of what she deals with are people looking for any kind of a free handout that they can find, with just cause or not. But, it doesn't just happen in our state. It happens everywhere. You said your firm handled the investigation of 2000 claims. I take it that they were directed to your firm because they were suspect based upon the insurance companies' initial investigation. In that case it seem very reasonable that 100% would be associated with fraud. There are bad people everywhere and in every class. Just because you dealt with 2000 that were suspected and subsequently found to be less than lilly white doesn't mean that everyone else in the state is the same way. As for my city, I live in the northwest corner of the state about a 5.5 hour drive from New Orleans. Saints Fan Since 1967

Oh, and as for my "ilk", I would never nor do I personally know of anyone that that has ever filed a false claim. My ilk doesn't stand for that.

I know the ilk: "What have you got for free? Bring 2 of each to me!"
I love the Falcons and to hell with anyone who doesn't! |
