Sorry, a regional term meaning backing off of a previous stance or statement. It comes from the fact that crawfish swim backwards. He refused to say that any Saints player said anything to him concerning any bounty or intention to injure him. He kept stumbling around with his words. I'm not good at finding links to something like the interview, but he came off sounding pretty bad, as did the host trying to put words in his mouth that he avoided.

Although, to Smith's credit, he was apparantly told that he was being interviewed about his work with the Samaritan Feet project which supplies shoes and socks for the underprivileged and his thoughts on the draft. He was blindsided by the host with the bounty questioning. I ALMOST felt sorry for him.
