We don't know if the statute has run unless we know what crime they think was committed. Maybe the Feds are going after something other than wiretapping. Or maybe the statute can be tolled until the day a fraudulently concealed act was discovered. We just don't know at this point. It could have run, but I doubt the Feds would be wasting resources on it if they thought they didn't have a case. For the record, that's exactly the same thing I said when they indicted Vick -- I was a hopeless apologist before then. But the Feds don't play around. If they indict, they usually convict.

And I'll also say this, having a little bit of experience working with the FBI on criminal cases -- they are the single most professional law enforcement agency in the world. I'll say it again -- they aren't going to waste resources on a case they think they can't prove. If they drop their investigation, that's a pretty good indication they don't believe they will prevail. As long as they're looking into it, Loomis and anyone else involve had better be concerned.

Could they not be investigating to determine whether or not the claim was false? Filing a false claim with the US Attorney's office is frowned upon by the feds, right?

RE: Holy Shit Saints
Here is an interesting story:

Saints audio engineer: Idea of wire allowing GM to eavesdrop 'Ridiculous' | wwltv.com New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS – ESPN’s story about Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis listening in on opposing teams’ locker rooms has come under quite a bit of scrutiny by journalists.

ESPN admits in its story that the network “could not verify the system was used.”

But, the network quoted an unnamed source as saying that an audio system was in place between 2002 and 2004 that allowed Loomis to listen to opposing coaches.

Robert Carroll, an audio engineer for Saints radio broadcasts for 27 years and former WWL-TV engineer, said the story had him scratching his head.

“My opinion, when I heard the story, I said, ‘this is crazy. This is ridiculous.’

Carroll has wired the Superdome for the Saints radio network and has served as the chief engineer at WWNO for the past 12 years. Carroll said that if there was a wiring system that would have allowed the eavesdropping to occur, he would have known about it.

“Absolutely, without question,” he said. “I’ve spent too many hours in that Superdome not to think I would have seen something.”

At the heart of ESPN’s story is an anonymous source, which, according to many professionals, causes some doubts.

“As a journalist, the story raised questions about the use of a single, unnamed source,” said Kevin Smith, the chairman for the American Society of Professional Journalists.

“There’s a huge degree of skepticism, when you’ve got an unnamed source and you’ve got nobody else verifying that this even occurred,” said Loyola University journalism professor Lisa Martin, a former WWL-TV producer.

Smith also took a shot at sports reporting in general, saying “there’s always been a rogue-type approach, different standards than in traditional news reporting.”

The Saints organization held to its position that the story is patently false. Greg Bensel, the Saints Vice-President of Communications, said the team’s position is to force ESPN to prove the allegations.

ESPN on Tuesday said that it continues to stand by its report.

RE: Holy Shit Saints
At this point it hardly matters if it is true or not, it is getting the attention of state laws and the feds but this kind of thing is just another side effect your fans were warned about.

This is just the beginning it seems more stuff is going to come out and some of it will stick. The watershed is open and EVERY Sports\New reporter is working on tearing the Saints apart to find more dirt on them so they can make a name for themselves. Given how slimy the entire Saints Front office is I'm sure we will be seeing a story like this at least once a month for awhile now.

Get ready for a season or more of distractions, have fun rooting for your crappy unethical cheating team.

Keep it coming. The more the Saints get kicked the more they pull together. I can't see them losing a home game all year.

They could be investigating it because they're on the take and the mafia wants them to, but I think the simpler explanations are generally the correct ones.

Really? You can't see losing a home game, even though you're playing San Diego, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and us in the Super Dome? And three of those games are over a 4 week period, including a short week between Philladelphia and Atlanta.

If you can't see the possibility of losing at least one home game, you're either blind or wearing the biggest pair of homer blinders I've ever seen.

LOL the entire team could be suspended and brese traded to Oakland for the right to Jamarcus Russell, and Guido would still say he sees the Saints going 16-0

Yup. Just as I'll continue wearing Saints gear every day and driving cars proclaiming my love for the team on front and rear plates. Nothing can come between me and the Saints.

Actually it seems the more they get kicked the more they cheat. Try cheating now under the microscope.

quit acting like you guys are under some extreme hardship having to fight your way through adversity. Your team brought this on itself by cheating the system. And stories like this is just one of the side effects from how corrupt your ENTIRE front office is. Squirm and deal with it cause it's only going to get worse.
