Guess maybe the era of defense isn't quite done yet...
All year, the talking heads have been saying that defense doesn't win championships anymore. Well, I don't know if they can win championships, but they can sure put Drew Bree's on his ass a lot. Justin Smith was a fucking mauler today on that D-line. Damn I would love it for us to rush the passer like that.

Saints still scored 30+ though, offense won today as well. That was a team win.

San Francisco didn't win today because of their defense, their defense faltered when it mattered most. They won because their offense made a bunch of great plays.

That and turnovers. Gotta give Alex smith credit. He had to do it not once but twice, and Vernon Davis was this year's Marshawn Lynch.

I missed the last 2 minutes, but I would say the D did more than the offense with the exception of the long pass and Smith TD run in the 4th. There were a lot of SF possessions in the middle quarters of that came that did nothing or resulted in field goals. The only difference between this game and our two is that they could stop NO on some of those drives or turn them over. Oh, and that the SF OC isn't a low-functioning moron all game long. |

and that Gregg Willaims suddenly turned into BVG by deciding to almost totally quit "sending more than they can block" late in the game, and althought doing so he one-upped BVG by doing so WITHOUT benefit of a Zone to at least help protect against the big-play TD

I don't know you could say that. That defense was amazing....Brees threw the ball 60+ times. The 9ers offense gave Brees sooooo many chances it was crazy. The amount of possessions in that game might have been one of the highest ever, at least in the second half. Wish we had defense like that. I don't think I've ever seen Brees work so hard for just a completion |

It still makes me physically ill to think we could have built a defense around Patrick Willis and drafted a one year wonder DE instead. ::facepalm::
3rd and 16 wouldn't have happened on Patrick Willis' watch. Patrick Willis fucks shit up. |
