From what I understand, Payton had serious doubts about Williams after the Super Bowl year. While Williams has full control of the defense officially, Payton had doubts and had his friend and LB coach, Vitt, spy on Williams. There is more to this story, but back to the topic. I wouldn't put it past Williams putting a personal bounty on Payton. Gregg Williams pulled this same crap everywhere he has been. Douchbag. Saints Fan Since 1967

What is reportedly said is that Ornstein said "PS Greg Williams put me down for $5000 on Rogers." When you misstate it the way you did you are doing what you just stated Saints fans do -- making up your OWN context and presenting it as fact. If everything is presented exactly as you interpreted it is horrible; if it happened and Payton knew about it and even tacitly approved of it then he deserves to be suspended for a year. But there are other possibilities -- not as likely, but still possibilities: Ornstein could have said it as a joke or even knowledge of a bounty system and not actually contributed money (if the NFL had records of him actually putting the money in, why wouldn't they say that instead of just using this email as an implication?). Actually Payton admitted that this email was in reference to a bounty on Rodgers. Not saying it was to end his career but a bounty nonetheless. |

That's the thing that some Saints fans still do not understand, all the allegations have been admitted to, guilt is not in question here, pretty much every rumor about the depth and scandalous nature of the bounty programs have been proven true and actually admitted to. |

So, think Cam will be talking to his Defense before their game with the Aints after finding out the Aints wanted to end his career and put money on the hit?
I'm going to enjoy watching those 2 games!

And once again you choose to interpret "cart-off", "knock-out", and "take out" as only being a 1-game or very short duration instance with no possible chance of serious long-term, long-effecting injury. When history and reality both show that any instance of someone being carted off the field or knocked out of a game was as a result of a serious injury that had long-term ill effects. A torn ACL is a year out, another year before back to 100%, and then ongoing "labelling" of "injury-prone", which greatly effects their ability to play and make the potential they would have done otherwise. A concussion could be even worse and add the label of "concussion-prone", which might effect marketability even worse than having knee issues. Then there's always the Theismann level injury that is in fact career ending. A severe compound fracture is absolutely a possibility when considering the type of hits that require being "carted off" to satisfy the bounty. So when somebody says "career ending", you need to stop shrugging it off like it's not a possibility. When these guys are trying to knock people out of the game, anything can happen in that realm of possibilities. |

Any time a player takes the field it could be career ending. And, yes, with a bounty program an injury could occur, but to say the intent was to go out and end a career is asinine. It is the goal of every defensive player to hit someone so hard that it affects their play. But, no player, bounty or not, would ever go out to try to end a career. That's just plain stupid. That's what gets my goat. "So, think Cam will be talking to his Defense before their game with the Aints after finding out the Aints wanted to end his career and put money on the hit?" Stop splitting hairs, your team from the top down was full of dirty, cheating lying classless fools. Your team has been disgraced and you should feel anger towards the Saints for disgracing your city and the league. Stop defending them like this and stop splitting hairs. |

Altho I don't think the bounty was in regards to ending players careers, I do believe it is naive to tbink that there aren't players who look to end others careers.
There are very very malicious people in this world and NFL players are not immune to that nature. |

Basicaly the arguing sides here are both being absolutists. There are very few things in this world that are absolute.
We're dealing with many different personalities so it is absolute that they are all not gonna think the same way. While there will be some who just hit to injure temporarily, there will also be some who hit to injure on a longer basis |
