RE: For those that say the Falcons will never win a Super Bowl
It is logically fallacious to say that because something has not been done before (or is rarely done, etc.), it will therefore never be done. This is true of anything, but doubly true in sports. The fact is, it is meaningless to talk about 5 year windows. I'd love to see someone work out the regular season records of those coaches, GMs and QBs who didn't win a Super Bowl in their first 5 seasons and ended up never winning one. I'd bet, not having looked it up, that most of them were pretty bad and rather than showing steady improvement season-to-season, they were going in the toilet. In other words, the reason those coaches, GMs and QBs didn't win Super Bowls is because their teams were garbage. I'd be surprised if there were very many not named the Buffalo Bills who had sustained success while never winning a Super Bowl. It just doesn't happen very much. Coaches and GMs get fired, and QBs get replaced, because their teams are not winning. That's just how it is. We don't fit that mold, 5 years or not.
Remember when all the pundits said we wouldn't beat Green Bay because they'd never lost a playoff game at Lambeau? The more I see of something that supposedly doesn't happen in sports, the more likely I think it is to happen. |
