Dumervil was slotted to make $12M this year and Denver told him it was "Out of wack, too high".

They made him an offer of about $7.5M or he would be cut. He accepted the offer initially, reluctantly, but then apparently declined it today (by not turning in the paperwork by the deadline). I think we could get him for about $9M/year (about a $6M cap hit this year).

I'm not sure if he would fit here because he's definitely a true 3-4 OLB pass rusher and a liability against the run. He's only 5'11", but 260 lbs and runs a 4.5. 11 sacks and 6 FF's last year. 9.5 sacks the year before, and 17 sacks the year before that. Dude knows how to get to the QB, period.

The ONLY way I see this even being possible is if Matt does a new cap friendly contract and we don't sign Grimes.

We're going to be about $8M under the cap after SJax's numbers get put in. We need about $3.5M for rookies and about $2.5M more for the remainder of our FA's we need to re-sign still. So Matt would have to do a new contract that reduces his cap hit from $12M to $8M, which I think is very possible. That would give us $6M of cap room after EVERYTHING else being done (except Grimes, who would be bye bye).

Just a thought.

I just posted something about this....but I don't think he would cost that much. he actually agreed to 8 mil then in a FAX error it didn't get into the league in time and he was cut (REALLY)....amazingly they got the notification to cut him in!

There is something fishy.....no one is demanding that much unless you are young.....I would bet you could score Dumervil for about 5 mil a year if you gave him a few years.....perhaps less if you know what you are doing and he wants to stay on a contender......not sure of his attitude.....I liked him coming out of college and thought he was a steal then......

i have no dog in this fight and he is sort of a liability in the run game.....but it is an upgrade to the pass rush (incidentally I think he could play on line or OLB

You can extend Babs and Roddy to make more room. Blalock can be restructured too.

Both guys would gladly take less this year to add a guy like Dumervil.

You know Babs wants a DE to help him out and Roddy's been begging for a DE on twitter.

I think this is moot. Looks like Dumervil just re-signed with Denver.

I see what the problem is now.

Because they had to cut him, Dumervil's guaranteed money was accelerated to this year and he became a $4.9M hit on Denver's cap. If they re-sign him to a new contract, they will get double-hit because they are limited in how much new guaranteed money they can float to later years. He would add another $3M minimum to this year's cap and they don't want to do that.

Dumervil really fucked up and Elway is pissed. Elway, D. Smith, and Dumervil's agent are begging the NFL to allow the verbal agreement stand or ignore the 7 minutes being late getting paperwork in trying to call it a technical problem. They are waiting for the NFL to rule on the matter. Until then, Dumervil is sorta stuck. But it should be resolved soon.

Most are saying the NFL won't let it slide and he is going to be a UFA.

Good news is he's going to get almost $5M from Denver this year, so he may join someone on the very cheap with a very backloaded new contract. I would love to give him a 4 year $28M deal with $16M guaranteed and with only $3.5M this year (so about a $2M cap hit for this year only). With him getting $4.9M from Denver already this year, we can easily afford him now. This might have become just the luck we needed.

Get Ryan's redeal reworked and then sign Dumervil, Dansby and Grimes and we're Super Bowl bound! But that's just a pipe dream. So whatever!

not saying it means anything but Dumervil is signing with Condon.....He seems to play well and we could work a deal for Dumervil and Ryan at same time (at least I think he is Ryan's agent....)
