But, given the talent the Saints have 90% of Payton can still be good for 12 wins. You act like Payton is a one man coach staff who has all of the answers while the rest are just lifeless dummies. Payton has surrounded himself which excellent coaches. That correcting happens as a staff. It will still occur. But, it was still Payton that brought this group together. That is much of his value. But it hasn't yet, and reports seem to indicate that the sides are still far apart. Brees is not happy about being tagged and wants a ton of money. He wants his contract front loaded. The Saints are offering him less than what he's asking and are trying to back load the contract. Brees has said that he never demanded $23 million per year. Yes, he would like a front loaded contract. The Saints will get the deal done. Right now it isn't a priority. May 21st is the first day of Saints mini camp. That is the first important date. Right now it's just strength and conditioning and Brees uses a personal trainer for that. In fact, last year he brought his trainer in to help with the player run sessions. I am not worried at all about Brees. Saints Fan Since 1967

I do know that if you can get 90% of your head coach without him being there then your head coach is replacable and I don't think Payton is. Lofton will help in run defense but certainly not in pass defense Nicks is one of the best "get away with holding" guards in the league. No disrespect to his skills. |

I'm sure Payton will be working on Sundays. Once he gets caught, I'm gonna laugh and point the finger like this...

RE: ESPN's Cowherd predicts, 10-6 falcons?
You can say what you would like, there are always highs and lows in a franchise. Clearly this year has been full of turmoil for the Saints. It will be extreamly difficult for them to have a consistent season with the loss of Payton. Vitt being gone for (6-8 games) I forget.
For one I don't see the offense for the Saints having a huge drop off once Brees gets back behind center (and he will). The real issue is defense. Nolan where ever he has gone has provided a vastly improved the existing talent. Spags on the other hand had a great defense in NY handed to him and did well. Went to St. Louis and did absolutly nothing with the team on either O or D. Spags to me has a lot to prove and I think the Saints fanbase will find out pretty quickly he is not what they are expecting.... IMO Rise Up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

I can tell you that Lofton won't be any worse than Vilma in pass defense and will be a huge upgrade against the run. Vilma just hasn't been the same since his knee injury and many Saints fans have been ready to see him go based upon what he's getting paid. As for 90% of Payton, they have already got a large percentage of him for this year. He has things mapped out for the entire season. If it wasn't for him there is no way these guys could make it through the year at a high level. And the whole offensive line is good at the hold. Every o-line in the league holds on every play, but the good ones get away with it more often. As fans we always watch the ball when our team is on offense. We don't notice our own players holding. When our players are on defense we are looking at them in the replays and we see them being held. Falcons players hold all the time. All teams do. It is part of the game. Grubbs will become good at it too. Saints Fan Since 1967

The Saints had a bottom third defense last season and still won 13 games. I will guarantee you that there will be an improvement on defense. Even if they only become average, coupled with the offense they will be a better overall team than the one that compiled those 13 wins. Vitt is gone for six games. The Saints can very easily win five of those six. The three at home should be fairly easy. At Carolina and Tampa will be tougher, but the Saints are still clearly the better team from top to bottom. The only real tough test is at Green Bay. Sun, September 9, Washington Redskins, 12 noon, FOX Sun, September 16, at Carolina Panthers, 12 noon, FOX Sun, September 23, Kansas City Chiefs, 12 noon, CBS Sun, September 30, at Green Bay Packers, 3:15 p.m., FOX Sun, October 7, San Diego Chargers, 7:30 p.m., NBC Sun, October 21, at Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 12 noon, FOX Saints Fan Since 1967

He doesn't have to. He knows the coaches he's taught can handle the job. Although, after this season he'll likely be training some more. Carmichael will be gone for sure with the successful season by the Saints. Saints Fan Since 1967
