The fact is, Drew Brees, Darren Sproles, Jimmy Graham, Marquis Colston, Jahri Evans, and Jabari Greer aren't the ones who are suspended for the rest of the season. Losing Payton will hurt no doubt, but to dismiss them because of this or underestimate them is mere chickenfeed. Continue to laugh at Guido and the Saints, I'm more focused on the offseason (or lack thereof) we are experiencing. The impetus to that offense is Payton. He works directly with Brees every week to set up the game plan. It is a very important step in their preparation. Say what you want about Payton but he news how to run an offense and is one of the best playcallers ever. If you don't think they will suffer without him your nuts. He's also their team leader. The players love him. You have to wonder how quickly the pressure will come on Benson to fire him or the GM or both. The real loser in all this is the Rams.just when they made a big splash and were setting out to turn their franchise around they lose their DC a month before the draft. |

There's not much of a precedent for this type thing. Who knows how much of an impact it will have. It's not going to be like when Payton broke his leg.

I'd say it is about 100% that Brees gets a long term deal before the July 16th deadline and the Saints remain the best team in the division. Nothing was going to be done with Brees before the Manning deal was made. Saints Fan Since 1967

First of all, Mickey Loomis is like a son to Benson. He's going no where and Rita knows where her bread is buttered and know that the Saints long term success hinges on Payton remaining. And Rita runs the Saints these days. Grandpa Tom is just a figurehead. Saints Fan Since 1967

RE: Bye Bye Payton Saints lose coach and picks
I think they should have lost 10 million in cap money for the next 2 years. The bounty pay was outside the cap so they should have had cap penalties as well. All being said I'm glad the hammer came down. Any Saints fan trying to down play the long term effect all of this will have on the Franchise is just delusional. Brees may not even want to come back at this point.

I am certain you will be as disappointed in the long term affect, as well as the short term affect, as you were in the severity of the penalty. Saints Fan Since 1967

Grandpa Tom is just a figurehead. The disfunction is revealed. When Tom is asked by the league to clean up the team, everyone in the front office simply ignores him. Loomis in particular makes Tom look like a chump. Meanwhile Brees clearly doesn't understand that Payton is an out-and-out angle shooter and has no respect for the rules. That was his biggest sin here. He was lucky to only get 1 year and not an indefinite like Williams. In my view this incident is just going to harden Sean's "don't get caught" approach to the game. He'll probably try to figure out a way to help with the game planning even though he is suspended and get himself into even more trouble. The only hope for Saints fans is that Sean keeps his nose extra clean. My suggestion is that he spends the year with that high school coach in Arkansas that never punts and always onside kicks. It would be a hoot to see him bring that style to the NFL. |

The Saints are the one thing that have always brought the people of our state together. There's a greater chance of some fringe bandwagon fan in Atlanta doing something stupid like that because of being hassled. Saints Fan Since 1967
