Duh, but why did he think that? Kaepernick can make throws that Alex can't and puts more pressure on the opposing defense, but he is less experienced and thus more likely to make big mistakes and/or screw up when the clock is winding down and so net net that is a wash. Meanwhile did he consider that benching the voted team captain might affect team morale? How about the fact that his players would see this as punishing a player for getting hurt? It doesn't add up and so my 'explanation', which admittedly was a bit tongue in cheek, has to be considered. Harbaugh doesn't want to win with a guy he didn't have a hand in selecting. He wants more control over team personnel and this move was designed to get it. In other words, it really is all about Harbaugh.
