Anyone nervous about the ref lockout?
Haven't heard too much talk about this. The calls are bad enough when the real refs are out there, just imagine the nonsense we will see with scabs making the calls. I can see some monumental bad call at the end of a game cost a team a big win, and I surely do hope it's not us.

RE: Anyone nervous about the ref lockout?
If they wouldn't have told us that they were replacement refs I'm 99% sure we wouldn't notice any difference. Whether it be regular or replacement refs we all will end up yelling and cursing at them if we think they missed a call.

Yea, same issue a few seasons ago and they signed just before the start of the season.

RE: Anyone nervous about the ref lockout?
Every ref has to start somewhere. These guys are just as good as the regular guys when they started.
I think the refs are asking for too much. Best to start new guys and train them. No matter how tenured a ref is, we will complain when a call goes against us, so it's ridiculous to sweat it. Whomever the NFL decides to put out there is fine with me, so long as they do a fair, competent job... frankly some of the "actual" refs needed replacing anyway!

It's not like I loved the old crew of refs, anyways.

The new refs won't be as arrogant as the old refs so that alone might make for an improvement. Case in point, week 17 2008 vs the Rams. A turner fumble is called near the goal line. Everyone sees that it wasn't a fumble but it is not overturned via replay because the ref refused to use this new fangled thing called slow motion.
It did make for the most continuously loud moments I've ever witnessed. The roof was blowing off the dome for every play of the Rams next drive. More boos than I've heard since halftime of a game in the late 1990s when they trotted out Rankin Smith Sr. |

RE: Anyone nervous about the ref lockout?
i didn't see a lot of the hall of fame game, but what i did see was the replacement refs blowing calls just like the regular refs do, they looked to me to be mid season form already! and maybe the post above is right, maybe the arrogance won't be there, or at least will be tempered somewhat. i say screw the refs we've had to put up with the last few seasons, let the replacements give it a go!
Chew on THAT, Petunia!

RE: Anyone nervous about the ref lockout?
not worried at all, I think they can get it worked out, but if they can't it will effect the NFL unilaterally therefore, all 32 teams will have to deal with it evenly.

RE: Anyone nervous about the ref lockout?
I figure either we are going to end up with the same guys making bad calls, or new guys (and a gal) making bad calls. My only hope is that we will no longer see players with name recognition getting calls no one else does (I'm looking at you Tom Brady).
