My take on why there will be a season this year.

My take on why there will be a season this year.
It's simple. Revenue.

The next court date is scheduled for June 3rd. This will probably favor the players. If for some strange reason it doesn't, then we are dealing with both sides at a standstill. The court knows this and must make a decision on the season happening or not.

The hard part for the owners is that they would lose millions in advertising revenue leading up to the season. Companies looking to advertise with the NFL need to know what is coming and for how long. If the season is shortened, their advertising could fail and cause them to pull out for the next few years. This alone could destroy the owners financially and the players know this.

So my take is that by late June we will have a decision on the season starting as usual. The lockout will be lifted and both sides will agree to certain aspects and leave other aspects till after the season.

That's my thoughts on it.

I tend to think along the same line of reasoning, just with a different conclusion. At the end of the day, there will be 9 billion dollars left on the table if there is no NFL season. That's more money than any of us could ever imagine. The players and the owners both know how much money that is, and they both know that they don't want to have to "eat" that kind of loss. At the end of the day 9 billion is 9 billion. I don't care what anybody says, even if you are prepared for a lockout, you don't want to lose 9 billion. That's the long and short of it. To lose 9 billion dollars will hurt any business, with the NFL being no exception. They just can't afford that type of hit. That's why I've never really worried about there not being a season. I know better than that. I am, however, extremely pissed off because of what's going on though. This shit has gotten out of hand.

This is my signature.

How much of that 9 billion is from advertising? If advertising only account for 1 billion... that is still 1 billion that they lost this year. Then possibly 700 million to 1 billion the following year due to league uncertainty.

That is, if advertising was only 1 billion. I would assume that advertising provides around half their revenue.

Ehhhh...that's a strong case, but you're looking at alot of what ifs. They could have a shortened season, the demand could only get bigger as people wait for that delayed big game, and now companies are paying a premium come playoff and superbowl time that would compensate for the missed time. It goes, a lack of supply decreases demand, but NFL doesn't really have a viable competitor...people want to see Tom Brady play Polamalu, not Andrew Luck against your future architects and insurance salesmen. So, it's hard to call. I do agree that there's too much money on the table to let slide...

There are $10 Billion reasons that there will be a season this year.

$6. + billion reasons for the players and $ 3.+ billion reasons for the owners.

Let's hope DeMaurice realizes that and doesn't get too greedy.

Because the owners can't be greedy, for sure.

The same greed that got us in this mess will get us out of it, temporarily at least. However, I just hope they get a new CBA worked out before the season. If we have a shitty season of football because there were no training camps, only to have the current situation resume immediately after the super bowl, I'm done with professional football. Auburn doesn't pull this bullshit, I know I can watch them without fail every year. They also better sign a CBA that the owners won't opt out of in 2 more years. That's another deal breaker for me.

The owners created the NFL. They earned their fortune,...well, some inherited it but this is the point. The NFL is a family. Families own NFL franchises. Then they have minority owners such as Warrick Dunn.

Some off the street dude takes over after Gene Upshaw left us and this is what we get.
