Because in the end when we win the SB or even when we are very successful it is all the more special to me knowing that it isn't the result of just being some bandwagon jumper, but rather the reward for lasting faith.

Yeah, that is what makes it beautiful. Only team of mine to ever win in my lifetime was the Braves in 95 when I didn't even know baseball. I've had the Falcons in 98 and the Jackets almost cut down the nets in 04 but that is as close as I have gotten. When one of my teams/schools win one, especially the Falcons, it will be such a reward since I'm one of the few supporters of them, even in my own city! (Except for UGA, everybody loves them here)

As much as I am disgusted with big market teams, let's not forget what the bottom line is for any network or any business for that matter, revenue.

In this case it's about ratings, and therefore advertising revenue. It's about clicks, attention, scoops, re-packaging expert, player, coach and fan dialogue in a medium to be quickly digested by the masses.

They aren't in the business of making art, although I'm sure there are a myriad of examples where it happens as a natural by-product.

Bottom line is you must accept certain truths about being in a small market, and take the good with the bad. And while slant is obvious in many an "expert" analysis it's hardly as sharp on mean spirited as some make it out to be, if at all.

Exactly correct. The money is in the NE. The league, ESPN, CBS, and FOX are businesses. If Atlanta fans spent the same money as NYC, Raider, Packer and Cowboy fans, they would be getting heavy doses of Falcon football. This is not the case. Heck, Mr Blank is having a tough time selling all of his tickets, let alone merchandise.

It is all about the money. If you want to be a Falcon fan, deal with it.

But, we have poor support for our sports teams.

They use a lot of marketing strategies to determine their markets.

Those polls on the web sites that we are always losing.
Those games that get rated high only when we are beat up.
The pro bowl votes for guys not on our team.
The award votes that consistently go for other teams.

Those things all go into a database to see which teams are popular.

Until our fanbase shows they care about the Falcons coverage - doesn't matter how large the media base is.

RE: My Thoughts
You can't get more small market than the Packers and when Favre was there they were media darlings. I mean really...a team name after food processing!!!

I love the Falcons and to hell with anyone who doesn't!

I truly don't care anymore and as such I just naturally watched less and less until now I don't even watch anymore. Problem solved. It's pretty much down to games and nothing else.

They've even ruined the draft but I'll save that rant until the off season Big Grin

Some of the playbook shows are pretty good, but I wish they wouldn't do predictions. I really like the X's and O's but I could give a rats ass who they think will win. I'm not sure it's still on but there was a show on ESPN(x), it was 30 minutes and it was 100% X's and O's. No interview, no 90210 gossip, of course they showed it at 3am and 7am lol.

Ive found that ignoring sports media comes naturally once you get to that point. I dont even remember the last time I watched either ESPN or NFLN when there wasnt an actual sporting event on. Complete waste of time, in my opinion at least.

I am with you on the predictions, opinions, etc; I dont give two shits who they think will win, want to win, or 99% of the garbage they choose to talk about. I want to know who DOES win and how they won, watching games solves that problem for me. Wink
