My Thoughts
Everytime someone posts something about the media saying something stupid about the Falcons or totally ignoring the Falcons altogether a lot of you folks blast them with the same "why do you care what they say?", let's fly under the radar!", "blah, blah, blah."

Well I don't think it is nearly like you guys think. It isn't that we care so much about what they say or don't say about the Falcons as it is we get sick of hearing, and have been for years, the same Patriots, Cowboys, Jets, Saints, Steelers, Big Ben, Brett Favre, Terrell Owens, NFC East, ect. mess over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

The Oakland Raiders scored a franchise record 59 points last Sunday. You're talking about one of the greatest NFL franchises ever scoring more points in a game than they ever have before and yet they can't get a sniff of national attention.

We're talking about Roddy White having the 2nd best game of his NFL career on Sunday and matching highlight reel catch after highlight reel catch. How many games have their been in NFL history with a receiver having over 200 yards receiving in a game? It can't have happened that many times.

Yet on Tuesday when SportsCenter did their top 10 plays of Week 7 the only Falcon play that made it was Roddy getting stripped of the ball for a fumble return touchdown. Had that been TO or Reggie Wayne or Larry Fitzgerald or Andre Johnson you and I both know darn well they would have shown a couple of those plays.

On Sunday the Broncos and 49ers will be playing in the NFL's now annual NFL game in London. Yes both of these teams stink to high heaven as evidence by their combinded record of 3-11. But this is still suppose to be a big deal on a national level.

Sorry but people will continue to post threads bashing the media and rightfully so until they get a clue which will probably be never. That outside of the Northeast there are very few people that care.

RE: My Thoughts
If I may offer a rebuttal...

As much as I am disgusted with big market teams, let's not forget what the bottom line is for any network or any business for that matter, revenue.

In this case it's about ratings, and therefore advertising revenue. It's about clicks, attention, scoops, re-packaging expert, player, coach and fan dialogue in a medium to be quickly digested by the masses.

They aren't in the business of making art, although I'm sure there are a myriad of examples where it happens as a natural by-product.

Bottom line is you must accept certain truths about being in a small market, and take the good with the bad. And while slant is obvious in many an "expert" analysis it's hardly as sharp on mean spirited as some make it out to be, if at all.

I agree! People forget that ESPN, NFL Network are in business to make money. Big markets like Dallas, and New York generate revenue for those networks. If the big networks spent as much time talking about the Falcons as they do the Giants, or Cowboys they'd see their ratings drop, resulting in a loss of revenue.

Ultimitely, winning is going to help the Atlanta Falcon's market to grow. Our fan base/market will grow once we prove to be consistent winners. A Super Bowl ring this year will also help! Big Grin

RE: My Thoughts
How is Atlanta a small market? According to this Atlanta is the 9th largest media market in America!

RE: My Thoughts
It's not just us, because Roddy had the 2nd best(statistical) game on Sunday. Kenny Britt of TEN went for 225 and 3 TDs, yet all he got was a passing "thumbs up" from SportsCenter and MAYBE a shoutout on NFL Live inbetween Favre talk. It's a cotdamn shame. And it has nothing (really) to do with markets as much as the media's darlings. If Greg Jennings had Roddy's game then he would be all over the place, and Green Bay <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Atlanta in terms of actual market and city. THEY DONT LIKE US. We are Boise State, a little love for being an underdog, but most people want us to lose and go away so the "good" teams get in where they are "supposed" to be. The second we lose a game they wanna drop us. But unlike the B©S, their opinions don't mean two shits.

Precisely Jedi, and while I used the term market I really meant in terms of popularity and mass appeal, not necessarily in TV sets although I concede that is important too.

Besides, the Bucs and the Seahawks are the best teams in the NFC anyway ....

But it's a self-fulfilling prophecy Birdman. Team A is popular so you talk about team A who gets more popular by talking about them so you talk about team A more which makes them even more popular so you you talk about them even more which makes them more popular.... You see what I'm saying? We won't ever get talked about more because we aren't "popular" and we won't get "popular" because we don't get talked about.

Fuck "popularity" btw.

RE: My Thoughts
Past history has shown that the more media attention the Falcons get, the worse they perform. Id rather they get not much attention.
