BVG HAD an excuse for our defense playing bad with not a lot of talent but he can't use that excuse anymore. Mularkey simply can't use that excuse he always had talent. I say if we have a bad season we have to get rid of both BVG and Mularkey.

Its a great feeling when someone finally understands what your TRYING to say.

Either realize that Mularkey needs specifics for his offense and that the style of defense needs a REAL NT or get different coordinators.

I say we need one or two more offensive playmakers and a DT.

If you don't know of viable replacements at the positions you deem needing help, then how could you complain? If you have a problem at a position, simply bringing in someone is a waste of money/time. You have to be able to look at the guy, evaluate him, and then decide if he is an upgrade rather than just a bench warmer. Of course, you also have to keep in mind that he needs to fit your scheme and organization as well. What positions and players did you have in mind?

Concerning DTs, I don't follow how you've come to the conclusion that we HAVE to have a huge DT in this system. We run an aggressive 1 gap scheme that focuses on penetration across the front. If you have 2 DTs that can cause penetration and beat single blocks, then you're ultimately creating a situation where someone HAS to be double teamed.

Up until that 50 yard run, we were shutting down the Pittsburgh run game; sub 4.0 YPC, no TDs, very few ground conversions, and no one had over 100 yards rushing. The play where he did score the TD was a run through the C gap if I remember correctly, off-tackle with 2 TEs. Biermann was turned inside, Peterson didn't hit his gap, Grimes was out of position, and he was blown out of the play trying to recover by Peterson. I fail to see how a Grady Jacksonish NT was going to impact that play. If anything, having Babineaux back in would have been ideal. He generally requires 2 players to keep from getting into the backfield, and may have provided enough penetration to bust the play.

Last year, we were 10th in the NFL against the run, and only allowed a single 100 yard rusher. We went in the #1 rushing defense's house, when they were fighting for a play-off spot, in weather conditions that calls for more running, and shut them down. Looking at this team, I don't believe run defense is our problem. I view that 50 yard run is a minor abberation instead of a sign of major issues. Granted, it cost us the game, but I don't think you'll be seeing a pattern develop.
