Even if the new team restructures that contract, if I'm a team why would I give up picks for someone that his team doesn't want? If someone wants him they'll just wait to sign him as a FA. I still have no idea why Tennessee killed their leverage and told the world they were releasing him so soon. He's still a Titan because they literally can't cut him. And everyone knows he isn't going to be a Titan, and no one will give up draft picks to pay him crazy money. Apparently their OL coach, Munchak(?) is their top candidate. While we could get a QB coach or something from a Superbowl team, I wish this would have happened a month ago when we could have given Musgrave a shot or had a chance at McDaniels.

But the one thing that concerns me about IF MM leaves for the HC job/Gets the HC job is that Ryan and Company are going to have to learn a new offense. They learned a new offense in 08 & did pretty well. I think they'd be fine, they're pro's. My 2nd worst criticism of MM, after being horribly predictible, is that his passing routes are terribly vanilla. Watch a couple Maryland games & it'll quickly be clear that Friedgen has a more complex & dynamic route system as well as an actual screen-game in his book. Also look at his RB corpse (speed-back, power-back, & short yardage back). He knows exactly how to use 3 different style RB's to their strengths rather than trying to force 1 to do everything. |

You're trying to compare ACC receiving routes and plays to what they run in the NFL? Of course college plays are going to seem more exotic and varied, because you can pull stuff in college that the lack of a talent gap in the NFL simply won't allow you to pull off. Mularkey never had any screens... yet I remember well over a dozen times this season, seemingly every other game, someone would make some comment along the lines of, "OMG a screen, I didn't think Mularkey ran those!!1" It had been said countless times, but yet people kept repeating that line. Since when did we try to force Michael Turner to do everything. In the Steelers game we tried to get Norwood involved and he kept failing before going down in the Arizona game, and we utilized Snelling numerous times until he went down with injured. It was hardly like we were forcing the square peg Turner through a round hole all season. |

Which leads to our "Chicken or the egg?" question, is Mularkey's playcalling making our players look bad, or do we not have the players for Mularkey to make proper calls? Looking at what Mularkey has done, it's his playcalling making our team look bad. I think he was great when we first brought him in, but we have more talent and ability on offense, and Mularkey can't fully utilize that talent in his conservative play calling. He's not terrible, but I think we can do more with another coordinator.

With 3 years under his belt I don't think it would be an issue for Ryan, in fact now would be a great time to switch, time to take the training wheels off. |

RE: Mularkey to Interview for the Titans HC Job
I have not read through this whole thread, so sorry if someone has already said this: Williams probably opted out because the Titan franchise is in a shambles and he wants no part of it. He'd rather stay with a winning team and bide his time for a better head coaching opportunity.
Why wouldn't MM make the same decision? HolyDuckett: The immaculately conceived gay-love-child of HolyMoses and duckettplease. (I'm straight, I'm just the result of their gay love, got it?) |
