Much is made of Falcons Home Record since 2008 - let's look closer....
I don't want to come off as negative or a hater - I'm a HUGE Falcons fans - HUGE!!! However, I feel that I can detach my "homerism" and be objective as well - sometimes when I do this - some will interpret this as being negative.....
Well, critics be damned. Much is made of how fantastic of a home team the Atlanta Falcons really are. Let's look at "Out of NFC South" home opponnents from 2008 - YTD 2010, shall we? 2008: Detroit (crap team) Kansas City (crap team) Chicago (crap team) Denver (decent team) St. Louis (crap team) 2009: Miami (decent team) Chicago (crap team) Washington (crap team) Eagles (good team) Bills (crap team) 2010 YTD: Arizona (crap team) San Francisco (crap team) Cincinnati (average team) Tampa Bay (decent team) I realize all NFL teams have a "chance" to beat you each week - having said that: For whatever reason through the fluke of scheduling – all of Falcons “tough” games out of division have been on the road and all the “bottom-feeders” we have played at home – this has created a little bit of an illusion of how good the Falcons really are at home – look at the above and tell me the really hard/tough games the Falcons have won at home – no Indy, no NE, no NYG, no NYJ, no Minn, no Dallas, no GB, no Balt., no Pitt., no SD – no nothing!!!!! Most of Falcons tough out of division games over last 2.5 years have been road games. You gotta admit that is an incredibly "soft" home schedule. Falcons are most undoubtably much better at home - but it will be interesting to me to see how we perform against an upper tier NFL team at home. Hope Falcons win but I'm not super-confident about this one. |

All that really matters is overall record. Sure, we played shit teams at home and good teams on the road. That's much better than playing good teams at home and shit teams on the road. In a nutshell, our records on/off the road are more indicative of the level of the competition rather than an actual home field advantage. I assume you're trying to say we don't have that big a home field advantage. You may be right. If we handle Baltimore tomorrow, we'll know a lot more. I can almost guarantee they'd beat us in Bal.

Who gives a fuck who you beat as long as you win?
Did 08 Pats squash the Steelers every week on their way to 16-0? No they had 6 games against the Jets, Dolphins and Bills. The majority of their games were against teams with losing records. So are the wins no good? Winning is all that matters note the super bowl that year. Put down the haterade. Be the real fan you claim to be. |

I love your scale. Your negativity is cute as well. Why do so many posters look for reasons this team is going to lose all of the time? This one is clearly scraping the bottom of the barrel.

RE: Much is made of Falcons Home Record since 2008 - let's look closer....
Just when I thought I was starting to understand football, along comes a question that totally upsets the applecart.
Why did we only get five home games in 2008 and 2009? I thought every team was supposed to get eight home games. Man, the NFL is screwing us in ways most of us don't even think about! Or is it possible that we beat a few non-crap teams as well? Is it possible that the Falcons have pretty much hammered everyone who came to the Dome, regardless of judgments about their craptastic-ness? Footnote - This two-forum situation is really eating into my free time. Thank goodness for cut-and-paste so I could just copy and re-post my AFMB retort here. |

And one more thing while I'm on my soapbox. Outside of Charlotte, I'm not seeing any crap teams in the NFL in 2010. Of course, those guys are almost enough to destroy parity all on their own.

Dude gets killed for some objectivity and stating some facts? Man please.
Why do some people want to see us beat BAL so badly tomorrow? Many of us want to see if we can beat a bona fide top team...compared to amassing a 6-2 record by largely beating cupcake teams (aside from NO of course). Homerism is ok, but let's all temper it with some objectivity from time to time. |

Apologies to g-dawg, I glossed over that 'out of the NFC South' disclaimer and hit the 'humorous sarcasm' button prematurely. Still, I don't know why the disclaimer was necessary.

RE: Much is made of Falcons Home Record since 2008 - let's look closer....
Let's look at it like this: we barely beat a SF team at home that was "supposed" to win their division. They barely beat a BUF team at home that was "supposed" to be the worst team in the league. They beat Pittsburgh on a last second play, which means that if they didn't connect they would have lost in regulation. We took Pittsburgh to OT and lost on a play that was just as lucky as the play BAL won on. We whupped the Bengals for 56 minutes, while BAL lost to them and gave them half their wins this season. SO WHY IN THE BLOODY HELL IS EVERYBODY SCARED OF THEM!!?? Its so hypocritical to say "expert rankings don't matter" but then turn around and give these Ravens so much credit after not thinking twice about Tampa. Just please, for the love of Christ, stop!
