RE: More picks for the Falcons
Ticks me off that we only got a 4th rounder for Lofton. Dude started every game and lead his team in several stats on defense and got paid like a top 10 ILB. Why that doesn't qualify for a 3rd rounder I don't get.

We can't package comp picks in trades, so we can negotiate our 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th(128), 5th, and 6th to move up or down. Personally I wouldn't mind moving up 10 or so spots to try and get the pass rusher, NT, or CB we really want most. Could we pull a Julio again and move up into top 10 to grab Jarvis Jones? He's about the only guy I can think of we would want to do something like that. Nobody else makes sense for something so drastic. Is Xavier Rhodes or Alex Ogletree worth moving up into the top 15 for? Not so sure about that. Desmond Trufant or Jessie Williams worth moving up into the 20-25 range? Now that I think might be worth it.

Not sure what 4 7th rounders does for us but clutter up our final cut list and toss a couple guys who will never play on the PS. It seems like the 6th round is always the cutoff for finding a gem. In 20+ years the only 7th rounders who have amounted to anything were TJ Houshmandzadeh, Donald Driver, and Marques Colston, all of which of course are WR's, which means squat to us at this moment.

The seventh round picks make the FO's job a little easier. Instead of calling and competing for rookie free agents, we lock them into our camp

More picks for the Falcons
I wouldn't mind trading back 10 spots or so and getting another third, fourth, and sixth.

2nd - 2
3rd - 2
4th - 2
5th - 1
6th - 2
7th - 4

13 draft picks including 6 in the first four rounds. This team needs another right guard on offense, but use the other 12 picks on defense and see what sticks. 2 DTs, 3 DEs, 2 OLBs, 1 MLB, 2 CBs, and 1 safety.

How many rookies would anyone be comfortable starting on D?

There comes a point where its a bad idea.

Saw someone on ESPN post an idea I thought was interesting. Contact Miami and offer our 1st for their 2 seconds (42 & 54). Use 42 on Barrett Jones, 54 on Alex Okafor, 60 on best available between DT and CB. Yeah, that trade would probably need more from us than just a 1, but I think we'd be willing to part with our 4th rounder as well.

2-4, no more than 2 at any one level, though. So maybe 2 on the DL (DE & DT), one in the LBs and one in the secondary.

I guess the league read what you have been saying about Lofton sucking and felt he wasn't worthy of a 3rd? Or were you wrong about that? Huh

I thought we could make a case for a 3rd rounder, but a 4th rounder isn't too shabby either. If Lofton had stayed with Atlanta, he most likely would have only played running downs. I'm betting they looked at how often Dent played and factored that into the decision.

And hey, at least we get to make a pick in the 2nd round as well.

This is true. That hurts us quite a bit, as bogus as it is.

I'm pretty sure you would not be upset if we used one of those picks to get a Shannon Sharpe, Gary Anderson, Brock Marion, Michael McCrary, Tom Nalen, or Adam Timmerman.

There are gems in the 7th, though I agree they are rare. Still, you won't find one if you don't dig, and the risk is nothing compared to the reward you may find.
