I was fine until I got to the third thread with Jenkins mentioned & the same handful of people are in all 3 of them making the same exact juvenile complaints. Being constructively critical every now & then is one thing, but when you're 10th post of name calling & exagerated ignorant whining is the same as the first 9, it makes them out to just be bitchy haters & I'm tired of reading it after the 2nd instance. Especially when I feel I have a more realistic point of view. Jenkins does more for us than Finn. I love Finn, don't get me wrong. Put him in on those 4-5 receiver sets every time we're in the redzone or 3rd & short, he has better hands than Jenks. But Jenks is a deep threat & Finn is not. We NEED that deep threat to draw away defenders so HD can do his job in the slot & the entire receiving game can be spread out. I see it, but the folks that are constantly crying about the guy obviously don't. They hate the fact that this isn't some fantasy football team with 11 pro bowlers on offense. And instead of accepting what we have to work with & figuring out how to utilize it to it's fullest potential, they'd rather bitch & whine. Jenkins is on this team & he has an upside that can help us, period. He's not going anywhere & we're not getting anyone in here who's better than him right now. You complainers have cried enough. It's gotten old. Get over it. |

How the heck is Jenkins a "deep threat?" |

Basic math & the fact he's caught 50+ yard passes the past 2 seasons more than once or twice & has 10 more of 20+. Check his stats. In 08 he had 5 receptions over 20 yards & 2 receptions over 60 yards. In 09 he had 5 receptions over 20 yards & 1 over 50 yards, not to mention the 39 yarder in the Bears game. 50 catches for 700 yards doesn't equate to 5-10 yard average. On top of that, I went to a ton of training camp practices & got to see him (and everyone else) up close. Dude has fast as hell feet, crazy long legs & stride & can smoke it down the field. If he gets left alone with a 5'11 CB chasing him deep, he gets the advantage, big time. I don't care if he drops it sometimes in those situations. His presence changes what defenses have to do because his size creates a mismatch and it allows us to put HD in the slot. And yes, Finn's size creates a mismatch too, but there's no doubt he will have a DB in his hip pocket no matter where he goes on the field. This is not always the case with Jenks. |

In 08 he only had one reception over 60 yards, the play against the Lions, which we all know wasn't an example of him being a deep threat. Sadly, I don't have access to PFF's stats any more to provide proper perspective of the other stats you mentioned, but he hardly stacks up as a deep threat compared to other known "deep threats" from the numbers I remember. In 08, he was right next to Tony Scheffler(a TE) and Wes Welker in 20+ yard receptions, and no one is calling them deep threats. While a whole world of praise can be given for his training camp performance, it hasn't translated onto the field, and was anything but good in 09. Until he gives people a reason to look upon him highly as a valuable #2 WR to this team, he's not going to be getting praised left and right. |

RE: Mike Smith said Jenkins "looks really good" for Sunday's game
the drops aren't the problem, its WHEN he drops them that's the problem.
that said, im glad to have him back because he's good for 3 or 4 catches per game and we can move HD back inside against the aints crappy lbs.

RE: Mike Smith said Jenkins "looks really good" for Sunday's game
Ok, here is my statistical argument in the "Jenkins is a deep threat" debate.
Hank Baskett is an undrafted player that has been cut 3 times in 4 years and has 77 career catches. On 3 of his receptions, he's gained more yards in a single play than Jenkins has gained in any of his 91 career games. |
