It's really coming down in Minnie. The football gods must really want Favre to play. They might have to cancel the game Monday.

The inflatable teflon roof of the Metrodome in Minneapolis has collapsed under the weight of snow after a heavy storm passed through Saturday.

The roof's failure called into question the Minnesota Vikings' Monday night game against the New York Giants, which was already postponed after the Giants' flight was diverted Saturday to Kansas City as air travel was shut down in and out of Minnesota.

A photograph published on the website of KARE 11 TV shows the Metrodome in darkness, void of the familiar white expanse that normally covers the Vikings' stadium. A leak on the roof had formed Saturday as snow accumulated, ESPN's Ed Werder reported.

Minneapolis and much of the upper Midwest have been hit by a blizzard that has dumped up to 20 inches of snow in some areas.

The Metrodome is operated by the Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission. Its executive director, Bill Lester, said Sunday morning the damage is being assessed and the agency will issue a statement later. He says he has no details yet on what happened.

The Giants (8-4) and Vikings (5-7) were originally scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m. ET Sunday, but the game was postponed until 8 p.m. ET Monday. FOX was to have regional coverage of the game in both Minnesota and New York.

The change gave Brett Favre another 31 hours for his injured shoulder to recuperate. The Vikings quarterback, who didn't throw during Saturday's walk-through, has started an NFL-record 297 consecutive games.

Information from The Associated Press and ESPNNewYork.com's Ohm Youngmisuk was used in this report.

They just said on NFL they may have to play at the new University of Minnesota stadium Monday Night... In which the low will be -10

I hate pulling for the Vikings, but we sure could use a NYG loss to clinch the playoff berth. I'm not sure if this gives the Vikes an advantage or not.

I don't think anyone will have an advantage in 10 below zero.

Yep. The Dome is definitely out for at least a few days. I didn't hear the mention of UM on the blurb I caught. This is a crazy idea. But why couldn't they fly both teams to another city w/a functioning (or warmer) field, and do the game there? Revenue?

Update: they are considering another Dome. Possibly Ford Field I think?

Yeah. They said IF its a dome, it will more than likely either be Detroit or Indy

RE: Metrodome Roof collapsed
can anyone say LA Vikings next year? This is a big reason they've wanted out of there, they can't get a new stadium deal done. maybe gives them a little more leverage now

Chew on THAT, Petunia!

Hard to make money in another city.
That's the # 1 concern.
