RE: McShay Mock
I love watching the actual draft play out each year and how incredibly different it is from McShay/Kiper's "mocks." They try to save face by doing their "best available" segments during the draft, but they're off on those too. These guys are jokes.

I don't really take his word for much. |

Since Marino was drafted the year I was born, I won't pretend to know the answer to this. But did Marino struggle his entire senior year? I also heard Locker was pretty bad in the Senior Bowl practices as well. Not saying that he can't be a great QB, I just don't think he will. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but McShay was really high on Andre Woodson and Jevan Snead as well. |

If you are going to draft a guy #1 overall, you have to really believe he's the best player available. If Andrew Luck is there I'm agreeing with you, but he's not going to be. I understand they need a QB. However, drafting for need got Jamal Anderson over Patrick Willis, David Carr over Julius Peppers, Kyle Brady over Warren Sapp and so on. This pick needs to be Nick Fairley, Bowers, or try your best to trade it (which I'm sure they will find no takers). Just saying, If they don't get another starting QB this year, they will be facing the same situation next year. Sooner or later they have to, we'll see. |

You can't waste the number one overall pick and a guy that isn't worth it. It's not a good QB class anyway. They probably wouldn't be very good if they got someone like Luck anyway so they'd be picking high again. Might as well take the BPA and get your QB next year. That helps your team more than reaching for some guy that's not worth the pick or money.

RE: McShay Mock
When is the last time there has ever been a "good" QB class. I hear that every year just about it seems.

I think his head swelled and he struggled a little. |

Logic dictates your correct, but what guarantee do they have that, that pick will be available next year or the year after for that matter? If they win a few games it becomes even less likely, but it is possible to pick up a QB late first or later rounds that could do the job (Tom Brady) or perhaps someone in FA, but until they do, I think their chances of a winning season is low. Success dictates value. |

Success dictates value. I'll agree with you there are no guarantees regardless of where you draft. However, you just can't play around with the QB position it is too important. A large majority of NFL starting QB's are going to be first round picks because the best ones usually are drafted there. It's just the way it is. Thinking that you can just wait until later in the draft and take your chances with a low round pick at the most important position in the game isn't the best way to go. I know about Tom Brady obviously, but he is the exception, NOT the rule. Take a look at the list of starting QB's. See how many were first round picks, and also see where the large majority of the successful ones were drafted. NFC South- Matt Ryan-1st Josh Freeman-1st Jimmy Clausen-2nd round Drew Brees-2nd round NFC North- Cutler-1st Rogers-1st Stafford-1st Jackson/Webb-2nd and 6th round NFC East- Romo-Undrafted Manning-1st Vick-1st McNabb/Grossman-1st/1st NFC West- Anderson-6th Smith-1st Bradford-1st Hasselbeck/Whitehurst-6th/3rd AFC East- Brady-6th Henne-2nd Fitzpatrick-7th Sanchez-1st AFC South- Garrard-4th Collins/Young/Smith-1st/1st/6th Manning-1st Schaub-3rd AFC North- Palmer-1st Rothlisberger-1st Flacco-1st McCoy-3rd AFC West- Orton/Tebow-4th/1st Campbell/Gradkowski-1st/6th Cassel-7th Rivers-1st |
