RE: One thing we need to Chane ASAP
Abe & Babs need to be kept as starters, we need another tackle and DE.

RE: One thing we need to Chane ASAP
I believe that Peters played extremely well for a 3rd round rookie DT and will only get better.

RE: Tony G should retire
Tony is cursed and so are the Falcons. Not a good mix.

Yes, the rest are garbage. Love Moore's upside and his hard hits!

RE: Who do you blame?
(01-16-2011 12:58 AM)Quinton Wrote:  Seriously. Look up his game logs in college if you don't believe me. He showed up for 1 season and that was his senior season at USC. And the reason I say he wouldn't have been a good fit for our defense is because we don't run a scheme where our LBer is pass rushing every play. Our LBers are expected to cover most of the time and blitz only occasionally. That's why Sean Weatherspoon was such a good fit.

I mean, we could've definitely schemed him in, but we would've had to change our defense a bit in order to make him fit. He didn't even play as a true linebacker for USC, maybe you should research things like this before you call other people stupid for posting accurate statements.

I guess these folks are on drugs too....:

"The former USC Trojan — who worked his way up from walk-on to scholarship player to starter to first-round draft pick — is off to a fantastic start with the Green Bay Packers."

And I guess you missed the Sports Illustrated cover page that had Matthews, Cushing, and Maluaga (sp?).......running in tandem.....didn't list Matthews as "second string".....

Where do the Falcons go from here
This is not an overreaction to what just happened, this game, if anything, was a confirmation of glaring weaknesses we've had all along.

We've got a game manager for a QB. That's who he is. He doesn't have the strongest arm. His pocket presence is not very good, he feels pressure and gets caught in the middle like a deer in headlights. Not saying he's a bad QB, I'd rather have him over a lot of other QB situation in the league, but he isn't a game changer that can impact the game the way other guys can or can carry a team on his back by himself for a stretch of games like Rodgers has recently.

I love Turner but I see him having just 2 more years of top notch production. The guy has skillets for hands and can't catch a cold, we desperately need a change of pace guy to incorporate screen plays. Too bad Norwood is always hurt.

Roddy is a beast. Jenkins is a serviceable #2, I've never hated on him. Our problem here is the rest of the WR group. Harry Douglas is a NON FACTOR. You would think he is David Copperfield the way he disappears on the field out there. We can not pretend that Kerry Meier is DA FUTURE either like some of the homers of this franchise think. This needs to be addressed, having productive slot receivers running underneath routes would help us incredibly.

Which brings me to my main point. Someone needs to start taking responsibility for our playcalling. Whether it's Mike Smith changing things up personally, or a coordinator getting fired, something needs to happen. Our offense is painful to watch. I understand Smitty takes pride in pounding the ball and bleeding the clock but this will be our achilles heel in the long run. Once the team is behind, they're done. How many times did we run 6 yard curl routes, 2 yard rushes up the middle on obvious blitz situations, those awful rollouts to out routes, etc? Way too many. A team without a dominating defense like us needs to have a more prolific offense.

What happened to this offense? I remember it being much more diverse in Ryan's rookie year. Now it's as vanilla as it could be and this team is not going to take a major step forward if we continue to live in this conservative scheme. It's a shame Mularkey declined that Broncos interview cause I would LOVE to have Josh McD in Atlanta.

I don't even want to talk about our defense. Abraham is getting up in age. We got Grimes and Lofton to look forward to, but that's pretty much it. DeCoud was a disappointment this year. Dunta Robinson was a terrible fucking signing, this dude plays 10 yards off every receiver and is very mediocre.

My main concern is just the conservative nature of our offense and the lack of playmakers. This is something I've been complaining about way before this loss. It hurt is today and it will continue to hurt us and Ryan's development. I honestly think Ryan will never be an "elite" QB but we need to give him the best chance to excel. If you've noticed, our no huddle and last minute drives have been for the most part great to watch offensively because the coaches actually allow him to open things up.

I just don't see the future as bright as I did this time last year. We don't have to fire everyone, but people in the coaching staff and front office need to start taking some responsibility and change things up. TD needs to step up in the draft. Peria Jerry is not looking like a great pick, and other than Moore he hasn't made a great pick in the last 2 years. I like Weatherspoon but Dez Bryant was too special of a talent to let go and he did so I'll always be mad at that....and I'm sure I'll get flamed for that comment.

A lot of people are saying we should be good for a long time but I'm not seeing it if we keep these same circumstances. Our success this year was largely based on our NFC West schedule and some luck. That's pretty much what it comes down to. Things need to change unless we want to be the "same old falcons"
