League is selling photo of James Harrison's illegal hit

The folks at KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh have uncovered an interesting angle regarding the hit that resulted in the imposition of a $75,000 fine against Steelers linebacker James Harrison.

The league currently is selling photos of the incident involving Harrison and Browns receiver Mohamed Massaquoi, at anywhere from $15.95 to $249.95.

Sorry, but the NFL can't have it both ways. If the league wants to legislate dirty hits out of the game, the NFL should do nothing to profit from those dirty hits.

For now, the NFL is.

I think Peyton's "ode" summed it up. They relish the hits when they make the highlight reel. I see Patrick Kerney level a guy every day on NFLN. Steve Sabol became a millionaire filming grown men decimating each other. Hell, he adds goofy sound effects of birds tweeting and bells ringing. Where is his fine?

x1000.

I love/hate when the NFL pretends they give a rats ass about something, then shows they couldn't give a rats ass about it. They are the one's supporting these totally legal hits, but have NO ISSUE TAKING SOMEONE ELSES MONEY TO PRETEND THEY HATE THESE HITS.

Think about it. The NFL is doing two things:

1. Improving their bargaining power. Have they shown they can arbitrarily increase fines for hits that don't violate any rule? Hell yeah they can, and they can sell photos of those hits. Your move, NFLPA.

2. They have ZERO reason not to do this. This is not their money, it shows the public they pretend they care about player safety, and there is no reasonable appeals process. Yes, I would gladly use someone elses money to pay for some charity as punishment for something I want people to think I care about. I lose nothing.

The NFL improves their negotiations with the NFLPA (the NFLPA now needs to bargain down these RIDICULOUS fines, and will likely have to give up something), and they can tell all the NFL fans that they want to improve player safety.

If the NFL really cared then they would be compensating the old-timers who suffered life-long disabilities from these types of hits.
The NFL is only concerned because their medical insurance rates go up when players get hurt. It's all about saving and making more money. And the money from these "fines" they impose on players get distributed into a charity - which basically becomes a tax-writeoff for the NFL.
